That's because they know a sanctioned payment system would help to level the playing field since SEC players already get paid. Notice Alabama is the deepest red.

But they voted yes.....

It's just because in the SEC, it's football, court appearances and then education.

The ridiculously-named "Legends" and "Leaders" divisions of the B1G are coming to and end...

Thank God!

West:

That Eastern division is going to be one tough conference!

That's what I was going to say. It seems like the East is stacked big time. That division should produce the Big Ten champion just about every season considering OSU, Michigan and Michigan St. are all in the same division. Even on probation Penn St. is pretty good too.

If you want to see how far the Big 10 has fallen you only need to look at the linked story by Bruce Feldman which ranks the top 100 draft prospects by college. The Big 10 only has 4 top 100 prospects, only 1 in the top 64, and no top 32 prospects. For comparisons sake Conference USA has 5 top 100 prospects, 2 top 64 prospects, and 1 top 32 prospect. The last time the Big 10 didn't have a first round pick was 1953, but it's certainly a possibility this year as most mock drafts don't have a Big 10 player going prior the the second round. The only realistic chances for a first round pick are Ohio State's Jonathon Hankins and Purdue's Kawann Short, but they are both more likely to go in the second round. Michigan left tackle Taylor Lewan would have been a likely top-15 pick but he chose to stay in school.

I hope Teddy Money will have a very good stat year to be a candidate for the Heisman.

It looks like my Hokies are going to have another poor year. QB Logan Thomas threw 3 interceptions to our back-up corners and there was very little run game (and the top RB is suspended indefinitely for a felony arrest). This is going to be a very, very tough year to watch.

Some week 1 lines are out. I can't imagine why anyone would bet on a game at this point when players could get injured or suspended, but they have the option:

Quote:
Tursday, Aug. 29
North Carolina at South Carolina (-14.5)
USC at Hawaii (+19)

Saturday, Aug. 31
Alabama vs. Virginia Tech (+22) (Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta, Ga.)
LSU vs. TCU (+6) (Cowboys Classic in Arlington, Tx.)
Georgia at Clemson (-2)

Monday, Sept. 2
Florida State at Pittsburgh (+8.5)

He should be the #1 overall pick next year. (Assuming he declares for the draft)

I highly doubt FSU is going to let him out of his scholarship. He going to have to transfer and sit out a year.

If that's the case, then Jimbo can forget about recruiting at Booker T. Washington High School for the foreseeable future.

The kid didn't freely sign with FSU. His mom twisted his arm to sign with them. As such, the only right thing to do is to take the high road and release him from his LOI. What coach wants a kid on his team that doesn't want to ve there?

Yeah, the FSU coaches are going to visit him and try to get him to stay but if he wants to leave they'll end up releasing him because Booker T. Washington has a lot of good recruits and FSU can't risk the coaches getting banned from the school.

I still don't understand why a parent has to sign a scholarship offer if the student is under 21. It's such a stupid rule and it makes no sense that someone can be 18 and sign up for the army but they can't choose where they are going to play college sports without a parent's permission. I can understand why a parent would need to sign if the athlete is under 18, but if they are an adult they should be able to choose a school without their parent's permission.

They need to get rid of the whole signing day crap, putting it on ESPN is putting more perssure on these kids to make a decision on live TV. It's a slippery slope because you don't want to open the flood gates with kids saying " I want out because my mom made me sign". I strongly agree with you Fate, they need to take the parents out of it, I think that's the biggest problem with this process.

Florida State's athletic director said that if coaches can't convince Matthew Thomas to honor his letter of intent then the school won't release Thomas and he'll have to appeal to the NCAA to try and get out of the commitment.
