Have the floodgates opened yet?

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/...otre_Dame.html

Quote:
Eddie Vanderdoes' promising career with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish could be over before it started. Multiple sources indicate that the consensus five-star recruit isn't headed to Notre Dame and will be looking for a new school. Lou Somogyi of 247Sports reports that the issue is academic, and Steve Montoya of MaxPreps indicates that Vanderdoes has to clear a high school course to get into Notre Dame.

Vanderdoes did officially sign his letter of intent with Notre Dame in February, so he would have to ask to be released from the school if he wanted to go elsewhere. Vanderdoes committed to Notre Dame over schools like USC (a school he was originally committed to last year before reopening his recruitment), UCLA and Alabama, so you'd figure that all those schools would be back in the mix if Vanderdoes doesn't stick with the Irish.

Vanderdoes is a tough physical tackle who could be an immediate contributor as a freshman to whatever school he ends up playing for in college. Vanderdoes is a five-star prospect who is excellent at stopping the run because of his ability to win one-on-one battles. He could be the type of player who pays off immediate dividends, dependent on which school he ends up choosing.

More on Eddie Vanderdoes...

http://www.southbendtribune.com/spor...0,764490.story

Quote:
Less than a month before he was to start his Notre Dame football career with summer school and informal workouts, defensive lineman Eddie Vanderdoes and his future morphed into a runaway rumor Monday.

And seemingly the only two people not talking about it in the college football cyber-world were the two who could bring actual substance to the discussion -- Irish fourth-year head coach Brian Kelly and Vanderdoes himself.

Sources close to the situation only added to the gray areas, offering a multitude of reasons for a possible 11th-hour defection as well as a wide variety of possible outcomes.

However, Sacramento Bee reporter Joe Davidson, who covered Vanderdoes in high school and throughout his recruiting process, posted the following on his Twitter account Monday night: "I did get this from Vanderdoes family: Grades, eligibility or conduct/character 'is not and has never been an issue.'"

The only absolute is that if Vanderdoes does drop out of the class, he will be missed, perhaps in coming seasons more than 2013.

The 6-foot-3, 285-pound defensive lineman from Placer High School in Auburn, Calif., figured to push his way into the two-deeps this fall, likely at defensive end, though he has the versatility to play inside as well.

Rivals.com had ranked him as the No. 21 prospect overall regardless of position, and 247Sports had him sixth overall in the 2013 class, and he has done nothing before or since to shake those lofty expectations.

Should Vanderdoes defect -- and UCLA is the reported targeted alternative -- it would take away what figures to be a cornerstone on the defensive line in 2014.

Junior end Stephon Tuitt and senior nose guard Louis Nix, the latter of whom retains a fifth-year option, are both projected as first-round NFL draft choices in 2014 and likely wouldn't play out their college eligibility.

The next two nose guards on the depth chart -- senior Kona Schwenke and fifth-year senior Tyler Stockton are gone after this season.

Of the remaining D-line options, projected starting sophomore defensive end Sheldon Day and junior backup Tony Springmann are the only two healthy defensive linemen who have recorded at least one tackle in their college careers.

Junior Chase Hounshell, whose most recent game action came during the 2011 season, will miss all of 2013 with his third shoulder surgery in less than two years after sitting out 2012 with the same issues.

Senior end Justin Utupo has yet to see any significant action in his career. Sophomore end Jarron Jones redshirted last season.

Among the other incoming freshmen, both Isaac Rochell (6-5, 260) and Jacob Matuska (6-5, 240) are not projected as college-ready prospects and need some time to develop. The Irish have two defensive line commits in their 2014 class so far -- Jay Hayes (6-5, 270) of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Andrew Trumbetti (6-5, 247) of Demarest, N.J.

A possible solution might be to consider moving either junior Ishaq Williams or classmate Ben Councell from the deep outside linebacker ranks to end. Williams already split time between the two positions in the spring and excelled at it.

Then again, Vanderdoes may start summer school on June 17 with all but the early enrollees in his class.

The prep All-American signed with Notre Dame late on national signing day, Feb. 6, after a change of heart. He was originally committed to USC.

If Eddie Vanderdoes and Thomas chose to go to SC after signing some where else, you better believe people are going to think Lane Kiffen is still recruiting these guys. I'm not saying he is but who's to say he didn't have Snoop Dogg are Will Farrel call these guys.

As long as he did it as Harry Carey, I'm cool with it.

Source - http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoot...-at-notre-dame

Quote:
Well, this could put a serious cramp in Notre Dame's attempt to get back to the BCS National Championship game.

After reports surfaced on Saturday night Notre Dame confirmed to The Chicago Tribune's Brian Hamilton that quarterback Everett Golson is no longer enrolled in the school. Since Notre Dame is a private school it did not give a reason as to why Golson is no longer enrolled, but Hamilton also reported that it was an academic violation.

Hamilton also reports that Notre Dame cannot comment on whether or not Golson can re-enroll at the school, but the "belief is he's out for the 2013 season."

Something that would be a huge blow for the Notre Dame offense.

Golson put together a solid season for the Irish as a redshirt freshman in 2012, throwing for 2,405 yards and 12 touchdowns while also rushing for 298 yards and another six touchdowns. He was a big reason Notre Dame was able to go 12-0 last season and earn a chance to play Alabama for a national championship.

And as if Golson's absence wouldn't hurt the Irish enough, quarterback Gunner Kiel transferred to Cincinnati in April. Which would mean that the starting quarterback job would likely come down to former starter Tommy Rees and Andrew Hendrix. The only other quarterback on scholarship at Notre Dame is incoming freshman Malik Zaire.

Rees has thrown for 4,413 yards and 34 touchdowns with 24 interceptions in three seasons with Notre Dame, but he does not possess the dual-threat capabilities that Golson had, as he's rushed for -71 yards in his career.

1. AFAIK, there is no one person in all of college football by the name of "Lane Kiffen."

2. Eddie Vanderdoes wants to go to fUCLA. If he does will you blame this "Lane Kiffen" on that, too?

Ohio State president Gordon Gee is just the best. Here are some of his comments that were obtained by the Associated Press via the Freedom of Information Act:

Quote:
"The fathers are holy on Sunday, and they're holy hell on the rest of the week," Gee said to laughter at the Dec. 5 meeting attended by Athletic Director Gene Smith and several other athletic department members, along with professors and students.

"You just can't trust those damn Catholics on a Thursday or a Friday, and so, literally, I can say that," said Gee, a Mormon.
Note: Football coach Urban Meyer is Catholic.

Quote:
During his comments to the Athletic Council, Gee also questioned the academic integrity of schools in the Southeastern Conference, and the University of Louisville.

The top goal of Big Ten presidents is to "make certain that we have institutions of like-minded academic integrity," Gee said. "So you won't see us adding Louisville," a member of the Big East conference that is also joining the ACC.

After a pause followed by laughter from the audience, Gee added that the Big Ten wouldn't add the University of Kentucky, either.

During the meeting, Gee also said he thought it was a mistake not to include Missouri and Kansas in earlier Big Ten expansion plans. Missouri has since joined the SEC.

"You tell the SEC when they can learn to read and write, then they can figure out what we're doing," Gee said, when asked by a questioner how to respond to SEC fans who say the Big Ten can't count because it now has 14 members.
