Slumdog Millionaire(Netflix)

Director: Danny Boyle
Cast: Dev Patel, Anil Kapoor & Frieda Pinto

8 Oscar wins: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Sound, Best Score & Best Original Song

Film:4.5

First viewing of this. It never was something that looked to interesting to me. I'm glad I took a chance on it because it is a very good film. I have no problem that it won BP at the Oscars. It has a strong story behind it and it was way different than what I thought it would be based on the trailer.

The acting was good I had no complaints. Danny Boyle did a fine job directing. Honestly this film did everything almost perfectly, hence all of the awards, which it rightfully deserves.

The only complaint I have with this film is replay value. I just don't see myself watching this too many times. But do not get me wrong, this is a great film and is most def deserving of a viewing.

Invictus(Netflix)

Director: The Clint Eastwood
Cast: Morgan Freeman & Matt Damon

Nominated for 2 Oscars: Best Lead Actor & Best Supporting Actor

Film:4/5

Nice film, but def my least fav from Clint in the past 10 years. Still this film was pretty good. I thought Morgan and Matt did really well in this and rightfully deserve their noms. The story was good and it being a true story always helps.

After watching this though I just felt like something was missing. I wish there would have been more back story of the team pre-pairing for the cup as in showing their determination and strides to get to where they got.

I would say watch for yourself, you may like it more than I did.

Yeah I thought about it. Didn't think it was too much of a spoiler but it really is. But I do take my own advice because I put plenty of spoiler tags just not this one time.

I'm sure if I grew up watching the film, I'd like it better, just like my other favorites. As it is though, it's alright, and I am still glad to have seen it at least once.
Oh ok I got u. Yea man Prince is a genius. He has a lot of great songs. I love the 80's and most of the music that came from the 80's. Got Em!!

In regards to the Braveheart/Gladiator/Last Samurai/Troy thing.

I wouldn't really compare them but since you guys are (because of other people doing so ), I without a doubt think Gladiator is the best of those (I haven't seen Troy).

Gladiator > Braveheart > Last Samurai

I thought Braveheart was pretty good, just not as good as a lot of people I guess. I gave it a 4.5/5. Gladiator though, I loved it, and give it a 5/5.

Last Samurai was 5/5 the first time I saw it, but on repeated viewings it went to a 4/5.

I was surprised to see Last Samurai mentioned in there instead of Kingdom of Heaven btw.

I forgot to mention KOH. Braveheart, Gladiator, and Samurai are all better than that, but that is better than Troy.

I'm very tempted to lower my rating of Gladiator to a 3 (out of 4) bc it really lacks depth and pales significantly in comparison to Braveheart and The Last Samurai, but I don't think I can do it.

I've actually found it to have good replay value.

Are we talking DC or TC?

If DC, I'd go

Gladiator - 5/5 - Will own it

Kingdom of Heaven - 5/5 (possibly a 4.75/5, I need to see it again) - Own it

Braveheart - 4.5/5 - One and Done Collection

Last Samurai - 4/5 - Bought it, then sold it.

DC, which does improve the film.

Do you recall a score for KoH DC off hand or have you not seen it in a while?

I watched my copy back in April when I first got it but will probably be watching it again in the next couple of weeks to finalize if it gets a 5/5 again or goes down.

I have a tendency to lower my scores on movies after seeing them again. Not all, but some.

i'm sure the titles in your "one and done" collection breathed a collective sigh of relief at that statement

3 stars (out of 4) is what I gave it.

Braveheart: 4
Last Samurai: 4
Gladiator: 3 1/2 or 3
KOH: 3
Troy: 2 1/2

G Force.

Movie 2/5
AQ ?
PQ ?

Can't really answer the a/v question because we watched it outside on an inflatable screen with 2 really over barring speakers. We are currently at Disney for the week and every night they show a Disney flic outside on the beach.

About 45 minuets into the movie I am thinking about how bad it is, but hey it's about the kids right? Well my 7 year old daughter turns to me as says "dad, do we need to stay here? This movie isn't very good." so off to the arcade we went.

As we were walking away we hear the audio cut out, we turn around and the screen has completely deflated.

Anything below 3 stars means I didn't think the movie was good. I rate movies based half on if I like it and half on if I think it's good, so a little bit subjective and an attempt at being objective.

The 4 star scale that Ebert uses is what I use, with 1 star being poor, 2 stars being average, 3 stars being good, and 4 stars being excellent.

i think that Hans Zimmer really has me attached to Last Samurai (the story of course is great) and Gladiator. I love when the score is done properly, as one critic said new classical music is in movies now and both of the scores are unforgettable.
