Most of what I've seen indicates that if someone has $800 to spend for a sub they're likely going to use it all on a single unit - I don't see too many of those folks looking for a pair of $400 subs in that instance. PSA offers a huge value proposition already, so to an extent there's considerable logic to bringing your prowess to the $500 club. That's just my 02 though...

Hey Jim, your input is always valued. I don't know of anyone else with the "hands on" you have with this topic. I know the "best for $299" threads are popular but we really have no/little interest in competing at that price point. You mainly have two groups of product there. 1) the stuff made for $100 or less(manufacturing cost)...2) huge companies simply selling off outdated stock at a loss. Neither represents an attractive market to us..

Jim Farina's been spending a bit of time on several designs we could bring to the market in the $499 range. The harsh reality is this product line would need to be manufactured overseas though. We have plenty of experience/contacts to proceed in that direction...and we may do so at some point. However in the near term(next 3-9 months) the majority of our development focus will be elsewhere as we put the finishing touches on a few things.

That's great to hear Colmets! Don't hesitate to pop in a few of your favorite concert DVDs too. When a new sub appears we often reach for WoTW or such and see what we can rattle loose from the walls.. Nothing wrong with that...but give some music a whirl too when time allows.

I did a slight test with Batman and my friends were in awe how awesome it sounds. They actually felt the vibration on the sofa. If I have any issues setting it up, I will contact you. Your customer service is top notch!

Gosh I hate to admit this but I downloaded one of the Reference Demo Blurays from AVS (Music Demo). The one with Justin Beiber is just unreal. I can't stand the little dude but the audio quality from the concert is out of this world. The bass drum beat on my XS30 is something out of this world. It is by far one of the best demo material in my possession. After watching a few times, I have officially turned in my man card and am now a Belieber! My wife rips on me daily...

At $499?

It might not perform as well as a 12". Remember you have a preset amount you can spend to manufacture each unit. If that amount is *XYZ* with 12"...moving up to a 15" will cause increases in other areas. First, the 15" will cost more. Then, you'll likely want to increase enclosure a bit. Now, the weight goes up too...so the inner and outboxing needs to be a little more robust. More weight and larger size means less will fit in each container when shipping to USA. There's other factors too...these are just an example.

1)bigger driver = more cost
2)bigger enclosure = more cost
3)better inner/outer boxing = a little more cost
4)more weight/larger means more cost per unit to get to USA
5)more weight/larger means more cost to ship from USA to customer.

Now, total just these 5 up and now you have to subract this total from something else in the subwoofer. (to get back to "XYZ). All you are really left with is the amp. Now instead of say 400 watts maybe you are at 150 watts(just for an example).

First and foremost...keep the overall sound quality. Once that is established worry about maximizing output and extension(although these are both important metrics of "sound quality" too of course).

I wasn't speaking of a $499 price range. I was speaking of my hopes about a new design in the future. Not really worried about price at this time more just 15 inches of conical air movement smashing into my chest... :P

Just wondering two things in general. In the future, a 15" front firing sub and the possibility of different finishes...

Oh okay----just ignore what I just said then..

Any particular reason why you'd like FF versus DF? Some just like to watch the driver moving at high excursions. Nothing wrong with that...just curious if there were any other reasons?
