Great News, I hope he is not underused like some of the other great actors who have played villains in the series.

I would actually like them to hold off on using Blofeld until the next Bond, unless they plan on connecting him to Quantum. I believe Craig is only under contract for Bond 24 and 25, and feel like Blofeld and SPECTRE needs at least three films in order to do them justice.

Waltz is a great actor. But if he in fact playing the villain, I hope they do something original with him and don't just have him rehashing Hans Landa for Bond 24.

Christoph Waltz May Be Playing Blofeld in BOND 24

2012’s Skyfall was almost certainly one of the best entries in the James Bond franchise to date (if not the best), but it looks like returning director Sam Mendes may be upping the ante in the follow-up. Skyfall was a successful attempt at melding the legacy of the Bond franchise with its most recent Daniel Craig-fronted iteration, as the story simultaneously addressed how a person like James Bond fits into the modern landscape while also referencing some of the series’ most notable hallmarks. With the ending of Skyfall acting as a mild reset to the goings-on at MI 6, a new rumor now claims that Mendes might be resurrecting one of the most famous Bond villains of all with actor Christoph Waltz’s role in the upcoming Bond 24: Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

Just a little over a year ago, we learned that a decades-long legal battle between MGM and Danjaq had come to an end, with the result being that MGM now controls all of the rights to the James Bond library—including classic Bond villain Ernst Blofeld and the nefarious organization known as SPECTRE. With MGM finally landing these rights, we wondered whether the next Bond film might take advantage of the expanded library and reintroduce some of these classic aspects of the franchise.

Now, with filming on the untitled 24th Bond film set to get underway next month, The Daily Mail is reporting that Waltz will indeed be playing Blofeld in the film though his character’s official description is reportedly that of Franz Oberhauser, the son of a ski instructor who acted as a father figure to Bond. If the Blofeld news is true, this would be a major development, as the character hasn’t officially been seen onscreen since 1981’s For Your Eyes Only, though he did appear as part of the “unofficial” Bond film Never Say Never Again.

The Daily Mail adds that Waltz’s casting is to be officially confirmed during a press conference in the first week of December, where they expect he will be announced as playing Oberhauser before he is revealed as Blofeld in the context of the film. This is rather exciting stuff for Bond fans and I’m very interested to see what Waltz’s take on the character might entail.

Bond 24 will also star Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, and Lea Seydoux and opens in theaters on November 6, 2015.

I hope they don't bring back Blofeld because I'd like to see the Bond franchise continue to invent new villains and scenarios instead of recycle old ones.

If they go back to shooting on film, get Waltz for Blofeld, and have David Arnold do the score, this could be one of the greatest Bond films ever!

Why do people want Blofeld to come back?

And Skyfall looked great so going back to shooting on film seems like a silly complaint to have.

Why do people want the Joker in a Batman movie???

Skyfall looked good in parts (the China stuff and the end stuff), but a lot of it had that oh crap it's digital kind of looking video look. I give them credit though at least they shot on the Alexa and not a Red Camera.

I just think a 21st Century version of Blofeld could be cool. I don't need it to happen, but I'm not opposed to it either. I like the character, and I think he can definitely stand on his own in the new series. It's not like we'd be moving away from created villains later if they use him. But I think it should have been expected too with how Skyfall took us back to a more classic Bond at the end. Seeing him will be fun, especially if Waltz plays him.

This series again needs an iconic villan like Blofeld. He's what sets Bond apart from being just a Bourne clone. But I guess some people like this Bond in name only stuff.

I don't see this series as Bond in name only at all. I just see this as the rough early years of Bond, and now we're moving towards the Bond we know. A lot of what makes Bond the Bond many of us know was in this Craig series. The suave and debonair man, the cold blooded killer, and the incredibly smart super spy. They were all there. But he was also rough around the edges, and the series was updated for a new time, so it has to be different. But it was still Bond. At least in my opinion.
