I will agree with the poster that said Nick wanted to leave her but you could tell after he spent more weeks with her, that he still loved her in a twisted way... which is why he just flat out didn't go to the FBI and confess what she told him so they could investigate.

I love the ups and downs of this movie.
[Show spoiler]
From the first act setting up Affleck to be a classic sociopath who committed the murder but acts like he has no idea about it. It ALMOST convinced me. Then the reveal that Amy was still alive. You then get a different feel of the movie that even though Nick didn't kill her, he deserved some punishment for his infidelity. For a while Amy ends up looking like a smart woman who escaped her domestic violence and the a-hole cheating husband gets some karma.

Then you see how much of a psychopath she actually is just from her encounter with Desi.

I loved the pokes at the state of the American media and how once the fingers start getting pointed you're guilty. I also love how Tyler Perry's character came out. Smart lawyer, who knows how to do the damage control, but if he wasn't helping out the protagonist, you'd think he was a giant a-hole.

And probably the most underrated aspect of this movie was the brother-sister dynamic. Man did Margo really become a great character throughout this movie.
I agree with absolutely everything you said. And also ...

[Show spoiler]Yeah, the sister is such a HUGE character. In some ways, she's really a Greek Chorus, representing everything that we as the audience are thinking. Loved her.

And to be fair, the gung-ho detective found Affleck to be a scumbag, her walking away in the end is her way of saying "sod you, you deserve each other" plus the fact she was taken off the case.
I didn't catch the part about replying "no" some of the dialogue wasn't clear.

I say the whole neighborhood as they showed them walking in fields and neighborhoods with flashlights looking for her.

Sure she found him to be a scumbag, but she didn't quit when she felt that way. Lazy way out of closure to the story. Things like the hospital releasing her coated in 5 gallons of blood don't make sense either, but I guess that is the Dark Comedy aspect, so absurd it must be comedy. Just an inconsistent tone then, some parts were comedy and some were serious.

That's why I always have the subtitles on. You never miss a word.

We did switch to them later in the movie. It really depends on if the neighbors are home on how loud I play a movie. This movie has a lot of high level ambient noise as well, like wind blowing, etc which I like for the atmosphere (great job in that aspect).

IMDb is very stingy about labeling films comedies unless they're filled with nonstop jokes. They're especially bad about labeling dark comedies as comedies. They have the same nonsense rules about horror.

They list Fight Club as a drama, and if that isn't a dark comedy I don't know what it is. It's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. I mean ...

MARLA: "My god, I haven't been #%@*(^# like that since grade school."

Come on.

Is there much replay value here, enough to warrant a blind-buy? The price has dropped to 13.

(I did read the book and enjoyed it.)

Judging by all of the Fincher films in your collection, I'd say definitely.

If you enjoyed the book and are a fan of Fincher, you should pull the trigger without hesitation.

I saw this film twice in theaters, and another time since owning the blu ray. I think it has a lot of replay value. Wonderful film.

Just revisted Vertigo for the first time in a long time.

Couldn't help but think of this movie while watching it.

I laughed while looking for Taken's "Reversal."

Not sure this is Fincher at his best but I really enjoyed this one and it wasnt what I was expecting at all - always good when you know next to nothing about a film before watching it!
