I don't see why so many people hate DVD's.
I'd rather have included iTunes codes than included DVDs. That way I can watch them on my iPad. I know there's Hulu, but it has annoying commercials (plus they could be pulled at any time for any reason).

To me, DVDs don't offer any extra value, but an iTunes copy would.

It's not that hard to make your own Digital Copies from the DVD's.

True, but there is a benefit to having it from iTunes (or even ultraviolet) and that is streaming. I don't have to take up space on my iPad, those precious GBs can be free. If I'm going to be somewhere without Wi-Fi, such as on an airplane or riding the subway, then of course I'd install on the device, but for other occasions, it's better to stream.

I'd much rather have the DVDs since they are physical and won't go anywhere whereas digital has many problems. And since you can make digital copies from DVDs easily you can have all three for the same price lol

That's why I prefer iTunes over UV, and why I always download my digital copies to the hard drive. I don't trust movies in the cloud. Remember that fiasco that happened awhile back where some Disney movies were temporarily unavailable from icloud streaming? The same DC, I had access to because I had it on my computer. That's one of the biggest benefits iTunes has over UltraViolet.

PLUS, you can make digital copies of BDs too. So you really don't need DVDs for that.

True, I much prefer the chipboard box and the lovely looking book, but I can't justify the price difference (the DVD only sets will probably drop a lot lower in price than anything marketed as a "Limited Edition").

This never crossed my mind before but I might actually do it.

For one, it'll mean I'll never have to deal with that ****ing slipcover on Vol. 2.

That's why I came up wth this idea, the slipcover on set 2. I'm still not sure why set 2 comes with a slip but set 1 doesn't, especially when both are going in the box (so why does set 2 even need a slip?)

I'm glad people like my idea

And this is exactly why I hate Viz. How hard would it have been to make a chipboard box for the DVD, clear DVD case for the reversible cover, and put music on the menu?

Viz are very well known for not giving a crap about their DVDs especially with Sailor Moon and Ranma since the DVD has minimal extras whereas the Blu ray has loads and crappy packaging and menus.

Or mabe they just realize there is no money in it, hardly anyone is going to buy the DVD sets. So the more they add to them, the more money they lose. For every 100 BD sets they sell, they will sell 1 DVD set.

That's far from truth unfortunately. Blu ray has not taken off as well as they had hoped and DVD still outsells blu ray by the ton as the average person can't tell the difference or want to pay the extra expense.

The reason why these Sailor Moon sets are selling better than then DVD is because the box and booklet, as well as the fact DVDs are included. I don't have a Region A player but still bought the Blu ray because of the box as I thought it would look nicer on the shelf. The blu rays are useless to me and still had to pay double the price to get it.

So I will be getting part 2 on blu ray to complete the box but I might get the rest on DVD as it is cheaper, but then that means I will have to buy season 1 again on DVD so it looks neat. Ugh what a pain.

I believe Criterion said that 30% of their customers still buy DVD. That's not a lot, and defentaly not "outselling" Blu-ray. They mentioned the numbers around the time they decided to do combo packs rather than separate BD and DVD sets.

Criterion cater to a comparably high brow market. In the UK (whose market cannot be that different to the States, and is the second biggest Blu-ray market in Europe after Germany) DVDs vastly outsold Blu-rays in general in 2013:

DVDs accounted for the majority of all categories of video sales (82% by value and 88% by volume). Blu-ray disc sales accounted for 17.5% of total video sales by value and 11.6% of sales by volume in 2013 (compared with 14.8% by value and 9.4% by volume in 2012).

Isn't UK usually behind the times though when it comes to technology? I believe they didn't start driving cars until 10 years after Americans did, still preferring to ride bicycles.

Lol no, the UK is exactly the same technologically as the US, however average people just seem to prefer DVD for some reason. The UK seems to get more 3D blu rays released over here than the US though.

Isn't it obvious? To get people to spend more money for the higher quality, yet more expensive item, make the alternative look barely passable.

Simple business techniques really. Even though VIZ seems like they are doing their best for the fans, remember they are a company whose goal is to make MONEY. Fans seem to forget that.

But the car thing is correct. I remember reading about it in a car museum a few years back, people preferred to ride bikes and few owned cars in the U.K. for several years longer than it took people in the U.S. to buy cars in droves.

The WB Shop is selling the blu-rays as well. They have three different version though. I think the "cheaper" blu-ray version is just the blu-rays.

Edit: B&N had the same double blu-ray listing as well. I did see earlier, but I thought that it was an error. I guess stores are starting to get stock of the non-limited edition set.

Holy moly, that's expensive!
The basic blu-ray set is more than I paid at RS for the limited edition set.

If you order from Righstuf they will ship either today or tomorrow, plus they are cheaper than Amazon.
How I just check and righstuf has it for $59 and Amazon has it for $52 so how is righstuf cheaper?
