Im a big sports fans and you often see in soccer/football big billionaires owners take over some teams and then they end up investing in some big players to help the team find/re-find success.

Imagine if the son or daughter of some super rich person in the world just randomly goes up to their parent and goes "Hey, can you make [insert anime-in-limbo title] happen" and then they just fork over millions of dollars to the respective parties to make the problems go away and then boom! Evangelion gets released.

Never really cared for the rebuild movies, especially the 3rd one, after watching this though I apparently didn't understand them, or the original Eva either I guess. I suppose I need to rewatch them with enlightened eyes.

Well I was thinking and noticed a post on Funi's website. Will Funi still release Rebuild 3+1 whenever it's released and finished or because of the netflix deal Funi lost the rights to it or not?

Would Funi still have Rebuild ones that have been made still? It was just the post made it seem that Funi lost everything. I did forget about 3+1 being stilled shopped as its not finished yet.

I don't see how Netflix's acquisition of the original series' material would change anything, especially since Funimation never had the rights to them at any point to begin with.

As far as I'm aware, the rights to each of the three individual Rebuild films released to date are separate from each other (and the original TV series + D&R + EoE from 1995-97) and should be on a fixed-term basis with the possibility of renewals to be negotiated as they expire.

Presumably the US rights to "Shin Evangelion Gekijoban: [MUSICAL SYMBOL FINAL BARLINE]" (aka "Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0", see below for Japanese text rendition) have yet to be negotiated for and are theoretically up for grabs when it comes out in 2020.

8 years is an awfully long time to wait for a sequel. I know Evangelion has a pretty strong cult following, but IDK the movie series really needed a conclusion like in 2015-2016 if you ask me.

Hopefully Evangelion will do well enough on Netflix to warrant a Blu-ray release in the U.S.

As for Evangelion on Netflix, the chances of it getting a physical release are looking slim unfortunately even though it's freaking Evangelion. Netflix is like very hostile towards physical media, so much so this Answerman article just came out.
