But yes, me no like this weird new world of films not getting physical media releases.

I just plod along, buying discs as I have done for two decades, not really paying attention to others, but has the market reduced by a huge extent? Are we fast heading for a time when owning a film on BD or UHD will be as niche as owning one on Super-16 or Laserdisc was in the early 80s!

I hope not but you only have to look at how tough it is to but a new release on the high street. This is not a world that I like.

I have posted this before but just in case some people missed it The French Dispatch has been released on Blu Ray in Australia.

A non-UK release is baffling in the extreme.

I read it that way too

It almost looks like they are releasing poor performing or poorly received films on BD first - maybe they see it as some way to claw back costs? Or to give them some legitimacy, seeing how some films only grow a reputation following physical media releases? (Probably more in hope than expectation).

Regarding Criterion and Wes Anderson, since there seems to be a lag of about four years between theatrical release and a Criterion edition, I'd imagine that most fans would buy the studio release as a stop gap - that's what I've always done.

I would've thought so too, but as it's being added to Disney+, people probably won't feel the need to import it.

I think you're right. I ordered a US copy of French Dispatch before I knew it would be on Disney+. I probably still would have, but it gave me pause for thought.

Didn't know where else to post this, but I noticed Andrew Dominik's Chopper is getting a 20th Anniversary re-release from Vertigo next month, so I assume a Blu-ray will come after that.

A bit of research - I didn't even know this had been restored - came to a thread in the Aussie section with a lot of complaints about the disc. Let's hope ours is a bit better?

A shame if this sucks as this is a great film, and Dominik is a brilliant director. Still patiently waiting for Criterion to get to The Assassination of Jesse James (perhaps once Blonde has finally been released).

The Aussie BD is the new "remaster", so probably not. You'd think Peter Jackson helped out if you ever see it

Update: it’s actually really sweet, at least attempts to tackle some serious themes (being a woman in the music industry, PR and media spin, remaining friends with exes), has some good songs and there’s some laughs in there too. If you can’t make it to the cinema then I can recommend importing this.

Falling is also available in Spain on Blu Ray - but the Spanish subtitles cannot be removed.

I'm fairly certain Herzog used compact/phone cameras and drones in order to avoid paying Japanese permits (which gave it a look I found initially off-putting, but adjusted to after 20-30 minutes), so it's not exactly a film film. I'll take a DVD over nothing.

Sony basically threw it away, releasing it on the same day as No Way Home and only to a limited number of locations right before Christmas - apparently a few Picturehouses in London carried it, but I’m not sure how many else. It doesn’t even appear to be on UK VOD yet, despite being “released” two months ago.

The US Blu is region free; Sony barely release Blus of their smaller films over here, besides Sound of Metal and Zola.

No sign of a domestic Blu-ray yet, but Bull starring Neil Maskell and David Hayman will receive a French Blu-ray from ESC on 18th May.

https://www.esc-distribution.com/pol...432011417.html

Memoria will also receive a French DVD (not even a BD!) on 4th May, though unless you have a solid understanding of Spanish, it may not be of much use.
