HDR10 MaxCLL of 1.7k nits, FALL a whopping 1.3k. Averages come way back down to Earth with 387 and 6 nits, respectively. Dolby Vision raises CLL to 10k nits and FALL to 1.9k. (As a reminder you can check a list of raised-brightness DV grades here).
I only had 5 shots over 700 nits in the highlights, and only 2 above 1k: ![]() ![]() Like The Green Knight (another Lionsgate joint), this keeps the intentionally dark look in check with some strong highlights here and there. WCG shows up sporadically, mostly in the blues: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

As is the case with most Sony releases, this one comes in pretty hot with an HDR10 CLL and FALL of 6.3k and 2.1k nits, respectively. No Dolby Vision grade to help out either (also not surprising).
I had a bunch of shots hit over 1k nits, with the very highest at 5.5k and a few in the 2-3k nit range: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Pretty stellar use of P3 here, and even pushes into Rec. 2020 sometimes: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A real showcase shot: ![]() ![]() ![]() Hellboy II on Monday. |

Given the shift from Sony to Universal, it shouldn't be surprising to see MaxCLL and FALL values drop, down to 1.2k and 409 nits. Averages aren't that far apart: 686 to 485 and 7.77 to 6.84.
Had plenty of shots with highlights in the 700-1000 nit range. A couple over 1000 (you'll have to squint): ![]() ![]() Pretty active use of the WCG, just like the first movie: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre coming this week. |

HDR10 MaxCLL of 1077 nits and FALL of just 226 nits. Most of the highlights I captured were in the 200-400 range, occasionally jumping up to 500-600. Only two shots hit above that:
![]() ![]() WCG use was rather low in my shots, mostly found in the opening title sequence and in some greenery here and there: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Macatouille; 11-05-2023 at 03:18 PM. |

On paper, the MaxCLL here seems like a big step up from Quantum: 349 nits to 908. In reality, though, it offers a similar experience with a FALL down to 127 nits. A vast majority of the highlights I captured were in and around the SDR standard. The last act, in particular, is pretty dark. Only two of my shots eclipsed 400 nits:
![]() ![]() WCG is another story altogether. There are whole sections that really pop under analysis. Shanghai: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Macau: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Skyfall: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Finally, I'm not going to pretend to be a bitrate expert here but I am surprised by how low the mean is: just 41 Mbps. Granted, it peaks over 100 Mbps a few times, which is encouraging. Similar story with Casino Royale. Quantum's mean is a bit higher (62.5 Mbps). Last edited by Macatouille; 11-03-2023 at 07:53 PM. |

Barbie (Warner Bros.)
HDR10 Mastering display luminance: 1000 nits white level/0.0001 nits black level MaxCLL: 446 nits MaxFALL: 115 nits I was afraid this would end up being a complete torch mode grade with oversaturated colors everywhere. Thankfully it's quite held back and reserved. Yes, there are a few speculars and you will see colors beyond BT.709 (especially in Barbieland) but not as much as one may expect. My only real complain is that the blacks are obviously lifted in some scenes. Apart from that, it looks very good. Heatmaps - Gamut Visualization - Tonemap - Album [Show spoiler]
