So glad to have snagged the limited edition of this set. I love the starry spangly slipcover and the booklet is nice.

the classic English dub on the first two are awful all the jokes are missing they supposed to be comedies but they are not funny at all they completely ruin the fun of them why did they do it how can the think the classis English dub are better they are not I love the dub on the old HKL disc' the dubs on Eureka releases of the first two are panful to listen to at least the last one is good in English I wish 88films released them at lest they would give us both English dubs instead of just one.

Couple questions about Twinkle Lucky Stars: Does Richard Norton dub himself? I just saw Mr. Nice Guy and it sounds like him. Also same with Eric Tsang, he's really funny in most movies, but curious if thaat's the dub VA or him, otherwise I guess it's 50% due to the voice being so funny if it's not him. Also was surprised to see Michelle in this, was this before or after Yes Madame?

1. I'm fairly sure that's Norton's voice in the Cantonese track. Ditto Millionaire's Express.

2. That's Tsang's voice. It's um...unique!

3. This was released before Yes Madman. She was in Owl vs Dumbo the year before.

I think Norton and Rothrock are the only actors to have dubbed their own English dialogue on a HK movie (Cantonese versions of TWINKLE and EXPRESS).

Norton is dubbed for MAGIC CRYSTAL and CITY HUNTER, Rothrock for all her other HK pictures.

Surprised they took the trouble given even many of the HK leads (Sammo, Jackie, etc) were dubbed by others.

I'm struggling to remember why they did, but Norton touches on it in one of his interviews. I think Sammo asked him to do it, but don't quote me on that.

Norton has a great voice they would be crazy to dub him in an English role like dubbing Mel Gibson, I don't mind they did it when he was playing a Russian in Magic Crystal, I don't know if I'm just remembering the English dub track but I think he spoke a fair bit of English dialogue in the HK track whether that was even the same dub actor as the one doing the fake Russian accent.

All the Sammo movies I've seen are older than Mr. Nice Guy so he's always dubbed, and I've only seen Killzone where Sammo does his own Cantonese voice over, but whoever his dub actor is does a hilarious job, I'm not sure I can even tell much difference between them. I've never liked Jackie's dub actors I don't know how many he has in Cantonese but he sounds different in some roles.

I do hope that's really Richard Ng's voice in all his films otherwise my life has been a lie

Richard Ng mostly dubbed himself. He was also a regular on TV so local audiences would be familiar with his real voice.

I wonder if any actors found the move to sync-sound a career setback in the manner of the transition from silent films to talkies? Does HK have a John Gilbert? (I'd say Michael Wong, expect he seemed to keep finding work for some reason).
