Yea, it took them almost 2 weeks for them to send me a new one when mine broke down couple of years ago. ( a month after the launch of the ps3)
But you see, I dont want a replacement...I want the same system. I'd hate to lose all the data I have in my hard drive.

Does anyone know what would have corrupted my system data? I've had power outages and so on and never affected it. A few days ago i was playing RE5 and some person only joined me for less then 5min and then left. My screen froze and i had to shut it off using the switch in back. Can viruses do this? Others have left re5 before and never screwed up my system before. Should backing up the files and reformatting work or should i just get a new hdd wich i plan on doing just tight on $ at the moment. I am guessing they had a virus or maybe that was somehow bad enough to mess up system data. Thanks in advance.

Default HELP>>>>BEEPING AND LOCK UP... what is it

Ok so i quit playing a demo and told the machine to go back to the dashboard. the screen went black and froze and beeped. I had to turn it off and the switch on the back and re connect both of my controllers. It is running fine now. Should I worry? what is it?

That happened to me once and nothing wrong happened after that which I could relate to the incident.

Its possible that Sony could send you the same model. When you contact Sony I recommend that you relay that to them.

However, if they can't do it without replacing it, then you are SOL anyway.

Unless you decide to follow my Laser Replacement guide and try to replace the laser yourself.

Seems like a typical Sunday morning to me, don't worry about it.

I used the You Tube video's to "fix" the YLOD, and I am back in business. I paid $21 for a heat gun, $6 for thermal grease, and a few hours this afternoon. Thanks guys......

I just wiped it off, The old compound was old and dry. It just flaked off and left the aluminum surfaces of the heat sinks and chip tops clean.

My PS3 wont switch on. When I try it just gives three short beeps and the red standby light keeps blinking. When I first put in on yesterday it lasted 15 minutes and switched itself off. It came on no probs after that but lasted about a couple minutes then did the same thing. This time I unplugged it gave the vents a good vacuum and tried again but this time it only lasted about 10 seconds before doing the beeping and blinking red light.
Any ideas how to get it up and running again or is it passed to the other side? Getting a slim next week now for sure.

Sounds like hardware failure to me. So either you could try the reflow yourself or send it into Sony to have it repaired.

Though if you send it into Sony to have it repaired, you'll be spending half the price of a new PS3 Slim.

I got the YLOD the other day, and I fixed it using the youtube guide. I already had a heat gun and Arctic Silver so it didn't cost me a penny. The only thing is I'm scared to put my games back in just in case it does it again. I don't want to have to do that all over again to get my disc back out.

The only reason I did that is because of my game saves. Otherwise it would have went on to PS3 heaven.

Its out of warranty so going to try and fix it myself, only to get my game out and to back up my saved games data.

Use rubbing alcohol. Water isn't the best idea. You can find rubbing alcohol for like $1 at a local store if you don't have any.

happened to my bro. it was extremely dusty but he fixed it using this (i am guessing that was the problem):

he opened up the system and cleaned it inside out. then it worked fine ever since.
