It was actually done already, in a similar manner as Caddyshack II (I.E. none of the main people returned); It was called Speed Zone (1989).

USA I need sequels to...

The Golden Compass

John Carter

(The Real) Rock n Rolla

The Incredible Hulk

Green Lantern (Though I've never actually read anywhere that they've decided against a sequel for this one)

Alien 3 - You know, the one based on the cool teaser about it being set on Earth and not a lice-ridden penal colony.

Demolition Man!

I'd like to see John Spartan and Simon Phoenix at it again.

It could take place in the mid-2050s and now Edgar Friendly's new "free" society has gone out of control, allowing a dark villain to rise to power. Maybe the once mild-mannered Alfredo García? This has plunged San Andreas' ordered society into chaos, a chaos these people are not prepared to deal with. Maybe this proves to be too much for Spartan to handle and maybe, I don't know, but maybe they could clone Simon Phoenix from a genetic sample from the Cocteau Cryo-Prison.

Just as they once reprogrammed Spartan to be a seamstress, they could reprogram Simon Phoenix to use him as a weapon against this new villain. It could be a source of humor too, as Phoenix's criminal nature struggles with his new reprogrammed mindset (Goddamn! What am I doing wrong?)

Of course, Phoenix is a villain and I'm not suggesting he'd suddenly turn into a good guy, but it could be cool, I think, to have him and Spartan work together. In the end, we should have a new battle between them, maybe. And maybe in a different setting. Something tells me Phoenix would feel attracted to the place Las Vegas has become by then! There would be so many cool possibilities, I think!

That's just my opinion, of course. But I am a fan of Demolition Man, so my imagination runs wild!

Re: Jack Reacher sequel

I would be surprised if that does not happen. The budget for JR was something like $60M and world wide box office gross was well north of $200M. That is an outstanding return.

I'd love to see it, but last I heard Cruise's schedule was going to make it almost impossible w/ another Mission Impossible and Man from UNCLE supposedly in the pipe.

that and being crazy. he seems to be the guy to go to if you want to make a tv series into a movie.

I don't know if I really want it but since we are talking Tom Cruise, what about a sequel to The Color of Money. It was kind of a sequel to The Hustler and enough time has passed that you would see his character age like Newman's did. if they could think of an interesting idea, it might be the one Cruise movie that I actually go and see.

There's definitely not enough Hellboy 3 in this thread. It's looking less likely by the day.

Not that I want a sequel for the sake of it, I'm really just curious to see what happens if/when Christopher Johnson comes back.
"Three years, I promise!"

I thought that was a hint, four years ago...

Why make Hellboy 3 when you could make Pacific Rim 2?

I loved Pacific Rim and a I'd love to see a sequel but GDT's plans for Hellboy 3 sound great too. Ron's so good as Hellboy, it would be a shame not to finish the story.

I have an unhealthy love for Demolition Man and would like to see a sequel.

How about: After assuming leadership, Edgar Friendly is assassinated by a new villain, plunging the city into chaos.

If we want Simon Phoenix back: The villain clones Simon Phoenix and sets him loose on the unsuspecting town - using him as a cover to sow chaos, while the villain works behind the scene setting up a cartel and robbing the city blind of technology and money.
