Default Cleaning speakers....

Just curious, what do you guys use to clean your speakers? I noticed that mine are quite dusty and was about to clean them and stopped short of spraying the pledge. Would cleaners like that be safe?

I use the 360 Swiffer duster that can extend and fold in different angles to dust my gear.. usually once a week and every now and then when vacuuming I'll use the soft bristle brush to vacuum the grills. The Swiffer is is really good even fits under some of my components.

Hey Fellas one quick question. Am losing alot of quality if i chose to buy a monitor speaker that is older in class. Like v.3. I know the design is different but will i be losing a great amount of quality stepping down in versions?

I wouldn't see any harm using pledge to clean the cabinets since it's safe for your furniture finishes. The only thing by using pledge is it would show any spots you missed.

I simply dust mine with a micro-fiber cloth, like the ones you use to clean the TV screen. No solution or anything, but simply dust them occassionally.

I would believe that some sonic detail would be lost in the older versions. Think about it, why would they come out with a newer version, if it wasn't better than the previous one? However, some of those gains are marginal and some are greater than others. Better materials and design should improve the quality of the sound, but to what degree really depends on your own ears. Coming from a Polk set-up, even the Monitor 7 v.3's sounded impressive to me, with better separation of the highs, mids and lows, which translated into superior imaging and detail IMO.

For what it's worth I have Monitor 11 v4's and v5's and I prefer the sound of the v4's...they sound more neutral to me whereas the 5's sound a little too bright.

I have since moved the v5's to my rears and the v4's are the mains after initially having the v5's in the front. I do quite a lot of 2-channel listening and have preferred the sound of the v4's.

The whole "play it loud" campaign that was brought in with the v5's doesn't sit well with me...after all clarity and fidelity are far more important than loudness. I look forward to moving to the Studio line sometime in the future or if I can afford it I may consider looking at Totem speakers.

like it told you before im seriously thinking about buying old. I saw some studio 100 v.3 for 800 bucks and they were in mint condition. Yes the style is out of date but im not really worried about the style vs. the sound quality.

What's your budget? I'm guessing you are looking for a centre as well?
Just as a comparison, there is a pair of 100s V4 for sale on Audiogon for $1700. So $800 for V3 is pretty darn good IMO.
