Gotcha

The lowest rated movie that I can think of that I still at least moderately like is The Phantom Menace clocking in at a 2.75/5.

I'm not a fan of nudity/gore/excess profanity just for the sake of having it to make a movie "cooler" or "more hardcore"

Its very appropriate. Emphasis on quality, not quantity.

Consider the times too.

Good to know

If I have a pet peeve about movies, its gratuitous nudity/profanity/gore.
Gore probably being the biggest.

If I were watching something like Kingdom of Heaven, of course I'm going to expect to see some blood from the sword strikes and stuff. No problems there.

It's when things go overboard that I

Squid you are crazy lol. DC does have quality nudity but I hated how they changed some of the sequence of events! Especailly when Achilles took the beach! I loved untie theatrical cut when te men were cheering for him as he owned but in the DC they cheered afterwards! I hated it!!!!!!!!

Robin Hood(Blu-Ray)2010

Director: Ridley Scott
Cast: Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Mark Strong & William Hurt

Film:4.5/5

I love this film and it is my second viewing. After seeing this in the theaters the first time and hearing everyone say they didn't like it, this time I tried to find things that I may have missed. I hate to say it but I didn't. Now don't get me wrong it is not a perfect film. The thing that I wish was different is that I think this film needed more time. The director's cut is 15 mins longer than the theatrical and yes it did help but just a little. I would have liked to of seen a little more of a back story of how Robin got to where he was in the beginning.

I haven't really researched what others think is wrong with this film so I can't really debate anything with anyone.

I will also say I am a sucker for a good "epic". I love history and the feel of these style of films. I know some/many of the films do not portray everything to a T. I know that not everything is true but that doesn't make it any less of a film. I have never really been an action kind of film guy but when it comes to epics I absolutely love them. I wish more epics were made more often because to me the replay value is def there.

I would say this is up there behind Braveheart & The Last Samurai. I think it is on equal ground with Gladiator( I know you are yelling at the screen right now). Call me crazy but I never understood why Gladiator is considered the best of it's genre. Now don't get me wrong Gladiator is most legit, it is a man's film no doubt.

One thing I do recall reading that people weren't fond of was Blanchett and I understand your reasoning. Imo I thought she did very well, no nothing Oscar winning worthy but good none the less. I love Russell Crowe a great deal (he is my dad after all) and imo he is a brilliant actor. He is very versatile but I just love him in Gladiator and this. He is the ultimate man.

Sir Ridley is great again. I love the way he shoots his films and the amount of time he puts into everything.

I think many were wanting the old witty Robin Hood. This is def not that but still has the wit in there. I believe when the next film is made that more of that wittiness will be there but I think Ridley wanted to show a different Robin. I think Robin will turn into that funny steal from the rich give to the poor man in the next film.

Please watch this film.

PQ:4/5
This film has a dark tone to it but detail is great

AQ:4.5/5
I thought it sounded great. The music and action scenes were top notch.

Extras:4/5
I think I rate this low because I just want more. There is a good bit here, I think about 2 hours. The Target bonus disc is a dvd and it ia a little over 30 mins and it was def worth it. Def good stuff in the extras that I love, the pre/pro/post production doc at about an hour or more. Awesome.

Please just do me a favor and watch this, but do not expect the typical Robin Hood film go into it with a clear head and expect something new.

Here's my rankings:

KOH-DC: 5/5
Braveheart: 4.75/5
The Last Samurai 4.5/5
Gladiator 4.25/5
Troy 3/5

Braveheart and Gladiator are similar since both involve
[Show spoiler]a guy avenging his family's murder by a dictator
but Braveheart is superior because
[Show spoiler]Braveheart involves more than just the character's personal revenge, but his country's citizens freedom. Gladiator has some of that, but not to same extent

Gladiator and Last Samurai are also similar since both involve
[Show spoiler]a guy leading an army, then having a traumatic event that make them jump sides and fight the nation he led
, but Last Samurai is superior because
[Show spoiler]the event which has the guy jump sides involves forgiveness/redemption and learning a new culture, not just the worn-out typical family murder, which is too easy and obvious IMO

However, KOH-DC is my favorite of all because
[Show spoiler](1) the King's character is my favorite in any of the films -- his dialogue is fascinating, (2) the characters/dialogue/themes support the action, not the other way around and (3) Israel and the Crusades is just more personally fascinating to me

Troy: 2 words -- Brad Pitt. Sorry, but I never was convinced of his performance from the first scene. I love Pitt --Babel is one of my all-time favs, but not in this role.

Tropic Thunder

It took multiple views for me to really appreciate this funny ass movie. I can say that this is very unique and very different. Originally i didnt like it and now im a FAN for sure. Ben Stiller is good, Robert Downey Jr. is amazing and Jack Black is Off the Chain lol. Very funny movie with very good replay value. Not to mention the transfer is amazing. More movies should get treatment like this!!!

Overall good fun and a very good blu.

A River Runs Through It (blu)

PQ and AQ: 4 (out of 5)

Film: 3 1/2 (out of 4)

This is arguably the most important film of my youth, one that I watched many times with my parents and older brother. I consider it one of the best family movies out there and it's a film that has great meaning for me. Throw in the fact that it won an Oscar for its cinematography, has a great narration and strong acting and you have a film worth seeing and perhaps owning.

Here's why both Last Samurai and Braveheart are vastly superior to me: they both have meaning beyond one person's attempt at vengeance and they both demand emotional involvement. Gladiator, as good as it is, lacks depth in that it isn't about more than the individual and isn't about one's culture.

Disturbed mentioned the soundtrack of Gladiator. Well, I own that soundtrack as well as Samurai and Braveheart and Gladiator is nowhere near as good or as well-used in the film as it is in Samurai and Braveheart. It doesn't help that the main theme sounds VERY reminiscent as a part of the Fountain's soundtrack!

but didn't The Fountain come out years after Gladiator? so wouldn't be considered original for Gladiator and downgrade the soundtrack of The Fountain? not the other way around... right?

wait. or do you mean that because the music is used in another soundtrack it doesn't make it as valued / original?

i'm confused by your wording
