Surprised he's the first Heisman trophy winner to get busted.

And unlike most Heisman winners he doesn't even need to make money in college.

As long as Johnny Football doesn't have lunch with Deion Sanders, he should be on the field this season.

You just described Flacco and it worked like a champ for him last year.

That's funny. Flacco was a great QB in college. A small school but great. FSU ran a lot of screen plays and short passes. Jumbo isn't the best coach in the world. He didn't really use the talent to the best of its potential but well see soon enough if he can play or not.

Except perhaps Reggie Bush.

I suppose some of this has to do with him winning as a freshman. A lot of people (myself included) show incredibly poor judgment at his age. Fortunately, most of us haven't won the Heisman and the powerful microscope that goes with it. Heisman-winning upperclassmen maybe have just enough experience the in the world of college football to know better than to put themselves in the positions Manziel finds himself in. He obviously has some major flaws, and I find myself wondering what his parents are trying to do about it.

Well, Bush was different. That was something he took out of college that helped setup the rest of his career.

This is a case of a guy just trusting random strangers to pay him for autographs and not say anything.

But other guys have been busted, and in their junior and senior years, just not normally a Heisman level guy. AJ Green got in trouble. The guys at Ohio State got in trouble.

Yes, exactly. I meant to say Heisman-winning upperclassmen. Previous post edited.

All these kids, most especially hot shots like Manziel, get the "don't do it" lecture as soon as they sign. Its more about him not being so dumb rather than being uninformed because he is so young.

I don't know how Manziel could be so stupid. It'd be one thing if he needed the money but his family is loaded with oil money. If the accusations are true (and there seems to be a lot of proof they are) he'll almost certainly end up permanently ineligible. He shouldn't lose his Heisman as it appears the violations happened after last season but his there's a good chance his college career is over.

The excuse "I'm just a 20 year old kid" line stops now, if he actually did this, he's a complete moron and has gotten a big head even before this new news that broke yesterday.

What proof? 1 pic of him signing 1 autograph while standing. The witness not seeing money change hands. I think ESPN is bored and this isa non story. He was at practice yesterday so A&M must think its nothing also.

999 sequentially numbered items. That's a single lot of 999 items. You think Manziel just stood around signing that kind of stuff?

Where is the money trail? I don't think Cam went to Auburn for free but where is the money trail? No proof of anything without the money. I don't think Clowney and Jay Z are just friends but prove something else.

As I read more about the Manziel situation I think there's a good chance he gets off with no punishment. The way people were talking Sunday and yesterday morning made it sound like the NCAA had a great case, but really it sounds like as long as Manziel wasn't stupid enough to deposit a large sum of cash into his bank account then he'll be fine. The only way I could really see Manziel getting in trouble is if the autograph brokers or Manziel's personal assistant (yes, Manziel has a personal assistant) talk, and there's no incentive for them to talk to the NCAA. There's plenty of circumstantial evidence that Manziel took money for autographs, but unless anyone is willing to speak on the record it's going to be next to impossible for the NCAA to prove money was exchanged.

I agree. Unless the dealer cut him a physical check for the payment it's hard to prove where the money came from given he's already rich. It's sort of money laundering. He has so much money to begin with a wad full of cash can be explained away as money from his family.

Of course common sense is he didn't sign it for free. But you need a paper trail. Unless the dealer cut him a check for the service or a transfer of cash was caught on film you can't really prove he took money.

Still doesn't make this a "non story".

Oklahoma State heavily favored to win the Big 12.

This makes me very happy.
