I keep thinking that too... it'd be pretty great if it went straight to CC. |

Paris, Texas for the win. The non-Criterion title, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, is a close second. The Criterion title, The Wages of Fear, earns third place. Also on the Criterion front... Badlands, Two-Lane Blacktop, Five Easy Pieces, and Easy Rider are quite formidable road trip movies. Other non-Criterions... The Hitch-Hiker (1953), The Grapes of Wrath, The Sure Thing, Bonnie and Clyde, Duel, Into the Wild, and It Happened One Night are all good. I guess that The Wizard of Oz is a road trip movie. Sort of. A shameless honorable mention to Road Trip, simply because part of it was filmed at my alma mater (Georgia Tech), and it stars Amy Smart. I have not seen Inside Llewyn Davis yet. I've read a lot of favorable reviews of this movie, but it just does not quicken my pulse for some reason. The same with American Hustle. I should probably shell out a dollar for a Redbox rental for Inside Llewyn Davis just because I enjoy a few of the Coen Brothers movies.
I edited my above post to make room for The Hitch-Hiker (1953), which is available from Kino. William Talman plays such an awesome villain. |

Given your post history, I can strongly recommend Inside Llewyn Davis. It's my third favorite Coen film and that's only after one viewing. Oscar Isaac is flawless and the cinematography...oh man. I really liked American Hustle and I know it holds up on repeat viewings, but it didn't even crack my top 30 of last year. Some of the performances were pretty annoying to me. But the true problem of the film remains in the way the plot was handled. It's a vehicle for Russell's style. The people that think he's mimicking Scorsese really need to get their eyes checked though. |

Watching Godzilla - anyone know what other film used the theme tune from start? Bugging me!
Also - quite surprised by the anount of scratches on the film - can someone enlighten me as to why it's not a better quality release? It's 1954 and other films from this time arnt as bad? Also it is bugging me as much as I appreciate the special effects for the time, I know it's minitures and I can't stop seeing miniatures haha Thanks! AH thought it would be something like that, out of all my Criteirons its probably the worst restore/transfer, not sure about tother released though.
Probably be better than whats out there by other companies though. Also! Look at this poster for new Godzilla: ![]() ![]() Doesn't that look a bit too much like Criterions cover haha? |

I've often noticed this with Japanese films of the period. Many older films of other countries don't look as old as some Japanese films. I can only guess that preservation wasn't a priority over there. That being said, I think the release is great considering what they probably had to work with.
