Is Friedgen coming back next season supersix4? I've always felt he was a good coach, and would love for him to get another year with that young roster he has. It's a shame he hasn't had more success over the last couple years like a lot of people thought he would including myself.

I think, since the team lost so many players, but if there isn't improvement then he might go. His problem is I think he's gotten way to comfortable since he came in with a blaze going to the sugar bowl and turning things around. Plus with this no leeway for players AD Debbie Yow, I doubt MD could make a serious run with her buddy coaches in place, just like with the lax team.

The lax team and the Tyree Evans situation was the last straw for me.

Miami caps off their regular season with an away game against South Florida this afternoon. South Florida is a team we'll be seeing a whole lot more of over the next several years with our five year home and home series with the Bulls. South Florida is definitely a rising program and Leavitt has done one hell of a job coaching them over the last decade or so. I imagine this has the potential to turn into a yearly rivalry game which would be great for both schools. As always, go 'Canes!

Louisville fired Steve Kragthorpe this morning. Not at all surprising, he took over a team that was 12-1 with a victory in the Orange Bowl and had records of 6-6, 5-7, and 4-8, despite the fact that most of the players from the Orange Bowl team returned and they were preseason top 10. Louisville pretty much had to fire Kragthorpe. They are in the midst of a stadium expansion from 42,000 capacity to 60,000 but fans have largely stayed away from games this year, as just over 23,000 attended yesterday's game against Rutgers.

ESPN says potential replacements include Houston's Kevin Sumlin, Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong, and possibly Texas Tech's Mike Leach, former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, and former Tennessee coach Phil Fulmer. I'd be surprised if they hired Sumlin. His resume is too similar to Kragthorpe. They both come from C-USA West schools and had teams that were offensive juggernauts.

I think Leach will be the next Louisville head coach. It's clear he wants out of Texas Tech, and Louisville would be an attractive opening for him.

Miami is playing really well today. We're dominating South Florida at this point, lets keep it up boys!

After a shaky beginning to the second half, it's nice to see Miami settle down and play the kind of football all of us at the U are proud of. Good job fellas!

Florida fan here, and they did a great job this year, and I'm real curious to see who stays for next year. But what I'm more "curious" about is Notre Dame, if Weiss gets the axe, who will the Irish seduce to take over the helm?

Any prospects?

I actually liked Weis, but I have grown not to, simply for the fact that no other coach there has gotten that kind of leeway. Maybe Natis coach, if Oklahoma fans really ride bob this offseason he could leave, I STRONGLY doubt Urban would leave simply for the fact he has already arrived at god like status in Florida, I think he saw what happened when the old ball coach left, and doesn't want that to be him.

Urban said flat out he's staying at Florida as long as they'll have him, which from the looks of it he'll be there a good while.

Is there an up and comer out there that can bring some talent to their team (Irish)? Some offensive coordinator or the like. Because they'll need recruiting help if Weiss gets the boot.

Yes indeed. Overall we had a pretty good season, especially when comparing it to the last one. Next year we should be an a BCS bowl. Anything less would be very disappointing.

More firings today, as Virginia has fired Al Groh and Marshall has fired Mark Snyder. Fans have wanted Groh gone for years but he has pulled off some late season runs to keep his job, but at 3-9 his time finally ran out.

I would guess Notre Dame won't officially fire Weis until tomorrow or Tuesday. Being a Catholic school I don't think they'd do it on a Sunday, but Weis has reportedly already cleaned out his office. I believe Urban Meyer when he says he isn't interested. One of the main reasons he turned down the job last time was because he has school age kids and didn't want to have to recruit nationwide, which is necessary for an Indiana school. At Florida he can get most of his players in-state and gets to spend more time at home. I'm curious if Brian Kelly would be willing to interview before Cincinnati's bowl game, and if he accepted the job whether Cincy would let him coach the BCS game. When Rich Rodriguez left West Virginia he wasn't allowed to coach the bowl game. I think this could be a good time for Stoops to leave also. Oklahoma fans are getting restless and he may have peaked there. I read yesterday that former Ravens coach Brian Billick could be a candidate as well. Not sure I believe that and don't think he'd be a very good hire. He hasn't coached in college for almost 20 years and he's never been a college coach.

Well Notre Dame made it official and fired Weis today. It's hard not to feel bad for him, Charlie seems like a genuinely good guy, and I wish things would have turned out better for him. I do wonder how long Notre Dame will take in finding a replacement, with the status of several big recruits in limbo they can't sit around too long.

The Notre Damme job must be a stressful one because expectations there are always too high. Good luck to whoever takes that position next. I hope they have a plan that works.

It seems Bobby Bowden will finally retire. Say it ain't so. It's a shame he couldn't go out on a high note. Still, his accomplishments are almost unparalleled.

I cannot wait for this weekend.....at least 2 great games going on:

Texas V. Nebraska

Florida V. Alabama

My early prediction....Texas V. Florida at the BCS Championship Game.

I feel the need to go buy some beer now in preparation.

extremely sad about this. as a young kid i don't know what it was about FSU, might of been their mascott made to look like a heroic warrior type or their colors but I picked them as my team and will always support them. its sad to see the end of bowden but nothing lasts forever. big shame they didn't go out on a high note. it seems like the top teams in florida go through phases where they get all the talent and do great. FSU had their good run with charlie ward then chris weinke, then Florida when spurrier was coaching, then Miami with butch davis/larry coker, then now with Florida and urban. FSU is due up for some good talent and some success. best wishes to bowden and retired life......joe pa up next!

Florida starting defensive end Carlos Dunlap was arrested for drunken driving early this morning after police responded to a reckless driving complaint and found Dunlap stopped at a green light. Dunlap did poorly in a field sobriety test and refused to take a Breathalyzer.

Dunlap is one of Florida's top players, was the MVP of the 2009 National Championship game, and could be a first round pick if he goes to the NFL this year. I don't know how stupid you have to be to get drunk and drive 5 days before the SEC Title game. If I'm a player I'm not getting drunk this week at all, but at the very least don't drive. This guy probably thinks he's above the law though and that cops would let him off. The way Urban Meyer handles this is going to be huge. I would hope Meyer suspends him but it will be a huge blow to their defense if they lose him so he could let him play and withstand the public's wrath. If Meyer won't suspend him I'd hope the school would overrule Meyer and suspend him, although I'm not sure the school would do that with the Notre Dame job open.

The Baltimore Sun reported Friedgen will be back next season after meeting with AD Debbie Yow. I've got to assume the fact that he'd be due $4 million if he was fired has something to do with it. I'm curious if Maryland is still planning on making James Franklin their coach when Friedgen leaves. When Franklin was named coach in waiting his contract stated he is due $1 million if he isn't the coach after the 2011 season. I don't understand having a coach in waiting in situations where the coach isn't planning on leaving. It leads to situations like at Florida State where Bowden was largely forced out because they already had their next coach, or they can be useless, like at Texas where Mack Brown has a coach in waiting despite the fact that he has no plans to leave.
