Oh yeah, most definitely Sony will replace or repair and you get a system equal to the one you sent in. I'm still sitting on my 60 and thinking I'll just bite the bullet and send it in. I vary back and forth. Far less urgent now that I have a 160GB/Drake's bundle. Kinda hoping Sony will admit to an issue and do it free maybe. Even if a class action or something happens later, they could still reimburse... really I have lots of data on my 320 (especially the saved games of GTAIV) I'm hoping I can salvage in some way.

Pick up an extra 320gb drive... drop it into your PS3 and format it. Then use an enclosure to plug your existing 320gb drive (with all your old save date) into the PS3 and do a Data Restore via the PS3 utility? Would that work? Then you could just wipe the 320gb drive and return it. No? |

My biggest problem is that you can only restore saved games to the same PS3. DIY fix isn't probably going to be reliable long term. If I send it in, odds seem to say I'm going to get an entirely different PS3 and still won't be able to restore all my stuff.
Even on the same PS3, if I take my original 60GB (preformatted), take it out put in the 320, format that. If I do reformat the 60 and then try to put in the 320, it will want to reformat it again. If I try to put in the original 60GB drive, it will want to reformat it (the PS3 itself 'knows' what it's current drive is supposed to be). Basically the entire experience has made me shy away from teh super huge drive and definitely not storing stuff locally anymore. I'll stream music or use an external HDD for media. To me it seems pointless for Sony to include a backup feature in the event your PS3 breaks that would then fail to restore what it backed up, which includes PS3 saves. |

I don't mind refurbs at all. They are reconditioned. Any defective parts are replaced. They clean it up and test it to make sure everything works right. It's practically new. To me, $150 for Sony to fix it to their spec beats any attempt I could make to fix a PS3 myself--more for the convenience than anything.
I once heard someone complain (about a PC repair) that "the manufacturer would either repair and return my unit, or send me a refurb. I don't want a refurb!" But what this person doesn't realize is, if a mfr fixes YOUR unit and sends it back, they're still sending you a refurb--YOURS! |

I have a recent PS3 horror story that thankfully turned into sweet success about a month ago. After nearly two years of perfect service, the optical drive on my 60 GB PS3 inexplicably stopped working (my PS3 would no longer register a disc of any kind). Thinking I was just over warranty I cursed my bad luck, but I called Best Buy and apparently I had two days left! I brought it back to BB, and not only did they replace my 60 GB PS3 with an 80 GB model right off the shelf, they gave me more than $100 in store credit to make up the cost differential between what I paid two years ago and the model I had selected to replace it... So yeah, one of my luckiest encounters; I swapped an overused, broken ps3 for a new, bigger model, a new controller (i got to keep my old one), and 100 best buy dollars. Who says it doesn't pay to get the warranty?

Yeah, I didn't either- I thought best case scenario, they'd replace my ps3 with a like-model and I'd be on my way. Don't want to say anything bad about the lady who rang up the transaction since she was very nice during the process, but I'm not entirely sure she knew what she was doing. I was so nervous during the swap- I had this rush like I was stealing from BB a la Robin Hood or something and I wanted to get out of there before they realized it was a mistake (if it was).

Do you guys run into problem such as the PS3 freezes when browsing the web? Especially on certain websites? Recently my PS3 almost always freezes whenever I visit a certain local newspaper site. The thing is, it used to work fine. Anyone have any idea why?

Sometimes the browser crashes on me, but I just figure thats due to them still working out the bugs with the browser and nothing abnormally wrong with my PS3.
