We are getting thin:

Quote:
Defensive lineman Corey Marshall has left the team "to take care of some personal matters," according to a Virginia Tech spokesman. There were no specifics given regarding Marshall's reason for leaving, but "his status with the team will be determined at a later date."

Marshall joined Virginia Tech in 2011 as a highly-touted defensive end from North Dinwiddie, Va.. He has played both end and tackle during his two seasons with the Hokies, appearing in all 27 games and recording 39 total tackles.

...

Late last week, the school announced season-ending injuries for linebacker Ronny Vandyke and running back Tony Gregory. But that's not all -- offensive lineman Mark Shuman is expected to miss four-to-six weeks with a knee injury and running back JC Coleman sprained both ankles in practice. Add those injuries to a report that includes All-ACC cornerback Antone Exum (offseason knee surgery), and it looks like a lot of new faces will be on the field against Alabama on Aug. 31.

At this rate we're going to have to suit up the cheerleaders to put 11 on the field.

Another rough season ahead. If so when does the old man get the axe or retire?

That's tough. I sure hate that you guys have to deal with Bama first game of the year.

Per ESPN, SEC and ACC has decided that starting next season and forward, the Louisville/Kentucky game will be played on the last game of each others schedules.

That makes sense. The ACC had announced earlier this year to make the last week of the season for rivalries:

It's the best time to do them, though I would like to see the idea floated a few years ago of having the Georgia/Georgia Tech game as the Chick-fil-A opening game one year.

Yeah they have moved the Tennessee/Vanderbilt game to the last game of the year as well. I am glad personally. This is where it used to be years ago and I like this trend of the last game of the season being everyone's interstate rivals. Just off the top of my head the last week looks like this now...

UT/Vanderbilt
South Carolina/Clemson
Kentucky/Louisville
Georgia/Georgia Tech
Alabama/Auburn
Florida/Florida State
Ole Miss/Miss State

Hmmm, I wonder if aTm will start playing Texas the last game of the year? that would be interesting.

It was the last game until one of them bolted for the SEC.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned or know this, but on Aug 31st ESPN College Gameday will be 3 hours (9-12 est)

I'm not sure if it'll be every week or not.

Every week will be 3 hours this year. What I don't know is if it will be the full Gameday crew for 3 hours or if the first hour will be like it's been in the past 3 years (when the first hour was on ESPNU) where only select secondary people were on (like Sam Ponder and David Pollack) and then the full crew was on for the final 2 hours.

damn, that sux. i really hate that for you guys.

i remember 'BAMA going through that a number of years back. of course ours were due to most of the players not getting into the gym and doing their workouts like they should have. they paid the price either during practice or in a game. of course the coaching staff was real lenient on conditioning back then. so the players didn't seem to have any initiative.

i'm not saying it's the same with your guys. i've always respected Coach Beamer and what he's done there in Blacksburg. he always seems so passionate when he's on the field. and the guys always seem to be in good conditioning form.

I wish they would put Pollack on Gameday as one of the anchors. I find him to be an excellent analyst with great camera presence. Desmond Howard has always been pretty weak, and Corso has sadly never been the same since his stroke.

Corso signed a new two-year deal last fall so he has at least a couple more years of Gameday. I'm not a big fan of Howard either, but there's no way they'd get rid of him because he's a big name and he brings some diversity to the crew.

Just saw Nebraska QB commit get knocked out. Very scary. He was carted off with no movement. Air transport brought in to fly him out. Good news is he regained consciousness and had movement. Think he is going to be ok.

Yeah I was watching the game too. It was a big hit but it was of those hits I thought he was going to pop right back up from.

The QB in question is a nationally ranked HS QB and this is his 2nd concussion. His dad happens to be the head coach of Apopka, a consistent high school football powerhouse in Florida. Whatever decision his dad makes with regards to him playing this season will inevitably be controversial.
