I did not say you were incorrect. I simply pointed out the usual inference associated with the use of the word "evolve." Contrast that definition of "evolve" with that of "devolve: "to gradually go from an advanced state to a less advanced state."- Merriam Webster Dictionary. Evolve means advancement in most usages of the word; we have the word "devolve" for when the opposite is true. Such as: The civility of our conversation has devolved. ![]() My crystal ball sees both of our posts being deleted if we can't control our tempers. Last edited by Vilya; 07-11-2018 at 06:10 PM. |

Perhaps so, at least in the case of one particular forum member who has been absent of late, but I think it has more to do with people just being a tad lazy with both their use of hyperbole and with their playing loose with the meanings of the words they misuse. It is more a consequence of the casual nature of forum postings than that of any educational deficits.

I remember first reading this thread over a year ago, back then I posted it in more. And this thread is pretty much going in the same circles as is was back then. Everyone does what works best for them. Whether it be using disc only, digital only, or using both disc and digital. I still buy discs and I buy digital. As I have said before, I used to have a lot more discs, but I was running out of room to store them. And there were too many that I found I never re-watched, I was just storing them. So I started using digital a lot more. I still have over 600 discs and still buy discs. (and am still running out of room to store them) My favorite movies I want to own on disc AND digital. So that way, if something happens to one, I have the other as a backup. I share my Vudu collection with a relative. He doesn't live close by, it's not like I can just take the disc over to him. I also have to travel sometimes, I can't just pack up and take hundreds of discs with me. Anyway, that is what works for me. Different things work for different people. ![]() I know one time I was at the Goodwill looking at DVD's and books. I came across a guy looking at the VHS tapes. I was surprised, I didn't think anyone really bought VHS anymore. We got to talking about movies and I asked him if he bought DVD's and Blu-Rays too. He said he loved movies but had very little disposable income to spend on movies. He bought and collected VHS only because they were so cheap. He was buying some Disney movies and they were like between 50 and 79 cents on VHS. He said there was no way he could afford to purchase those on DVD or Blu-ray. So he just stuck with VHS. Watch movies however you like. Like Groot said, no one is going to change their opinion. (I can definitely understand that if you have a poor internet connection, worry about having control over your movies at all times or wanting the absolute best quality, then digital may not be your best choice.) I know Vudu has their own forums. And their are a lot of streaming and "digital community" groups on Google+. |

It appears that SVOD = cable is lost on some here. If they were interested they would find revenue from SVOD to be a small part of pay TV revenue. I know it has been pointed out that EST = competitor for physical media yet that seems lost on some posters.
Has SVOD affected physical media sales and rentals, probably so, but to what extent I do not know. Is the effect more or less than HBO, Showtime, etc., has/had, I do not know and doubt there is any good data. |

I recall that bruceames felt that svod data should not even be included with the home video sales data. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=743 Last edited by Vilya; 07-11-2018 at 06:45 PM. |

Yeah, what kind of sick, depraved human being am I that I like that I can be watching a movie in my office where I print clothing and accessories for a living and can pause it, go upstairs and take a shower and start it right back in my bedroom without needing to go through common disc hassles. I am truly a lost soul and welcome being a fat bastard on a spaceship. |

I am happy to report that my latest order from Amazon.uk has arrived with 7 more titles for me to enjoy. I finally have The Matrix 4K and The Prestige 4K; there has been considerable debate about The Matrix 4K disc. I am looking forward to finally seeing it and deciding where I stand on the matter.
I got four 3D titles: Black Panther, Coco, Kung Fu Panda, Kung Fu Panda 2. I do enjoy my 3D- an area that streaming has pretty much neglected. The other title I received was the original Fright Night. 19 movies for the month now; it's time to slow this juggernaut down. Last edited by Vilya; 07-11-2018 at 08:47 PM. |

Bruce, the late Kosty and I go back quite a ways. I read MPN (formerly HMM) almost every morning and some other sites to try and stay up on industry news/events.

I don't know about 4K. I have a couple of 4K UHD discs only because they are better than the old, early Blu-ray versions. Like Terminator 2 for example. The other I have is the Dark Knight Trilogy which has the first two movies encoded with VC-1 and Dolby TrueHD. The 4K UHD discs are HEVC and DTS-HD MA audio. But idk I think I would still be happy if they did a proper high-bitrate AVC encode with DTS-HD MA audio the way Criterion does.

The Atmos mix is a very good reason to double dip. I did an A/B comparison with the rooftop rescue scene with the Atmos track compared to the original through an up mixer. The original was still cool but the Atmos mix Definitely shined.

Well I’d say we’ve all ask that very question at one time or another during our tenure here. However, over time, like technology, The Blu-ray Forum has evolved and created more sub forums to reflect that change. So given all that effort I don’t think they have a problem with us talking about more than just BD in their forum.

Meet with the roofer that the seller is working with today and picked out the color we think will compliment our new home, merlot. We’ll pay the difference between what they’re insurance will cover and it, but I think it’s better for us.
