I do not have room (or the WAF support) for a 7.x setup.
If you go the Emo route, Dual XPA-5s all the way for biamping if you have the budget. I'd have done the same, but since I wanted a dedicated 2 channel for music I went with an XPA-2 instead and dumped my dual LPA-1 setup. I'll be adding an XPA-5 later.

Just wondering, is it also possible for him to still get a 7.1 setup even if he the combine the the 3-channel amp and 2 channel amp but run his back surrounds with his AVR. Wouldnt the AVR be more than enough power to run the 2 back surrounds? He can run his main speakers on all his amp.

What would dual XPA-5's gain me if my surrounds do not support bi-amping?

Sure he could do that ! Right now my 7 channel amp is on my front L/R & my 2 channel amp is on the center ! My 4 surrounds are on the receiver !!

I read in an Emo MPS-2 review at Hometheaterreview.com that Emotiva got its start as an OEM designer and manufacturer of pre-amps for other brand name audio companies. Unfortunately, it didn't name any companies, and there's very little published on Emotiva products.

Can anyone name the companies and models that Emotiva made? I'm interested in adding a separate multichannel amp to my system, and this would help my research.

Thanks.

While I cannot link the website (since I am not at home right now) I found an OEM company the President of Emotiva is also the President of here in the USA for a global company. One named listed under various companies that this Global company manufactures for is SUNFIRE. I will see if I can find the names of the other companies if I have get a chance. I doubt you will find any direct links with Emotiva since they do not make it known as to who they design and manufacture for.

Also the MPS-2 in longer in production due to manufacturing cost. A new amp is in the works to take the place of the MPS-2.

I contacted Emo about this issue with the UMC-1; it was important to me since I got that shiny new Oppo player! They said what they are in the process of doing is getting the licensing agreement to come through, once that happens, the unit will decode DSD for our SACD needs!

Increased dynamics across your entire front stage. I wouldn't worry about not being able to biamp the surrounds, but on the plus side you could then also be able run your surrounds off the XPA-5s. One surround channel on one XPA, another surround channel on the other XPA to balance the load. This would leave 2 channels left over in the event you ever do decide to go 7.1, or power a 2nd room, or power passive subs, etc.

yes it does, it starts loading the BD movie as soon as the draw closes and in seconds (single digits) your rolling. It will start playing SACD & DVD-A in 3-4 seconds from the time the draw closes!

it's really quick, quicker than i thought it would/or could have been relative to the ps3, and yes, i own a ps3 so i can say that. no other blu player is as fast as this player other than the ps3.

Here are two websites that are for the same company. One shows and talks about it's manufacturing more so than the other. One lists the President of Emotiva along with old address for Emotiva as his contact address. Hope this helps you out.

Emotiva is not involved with Sunfire or whoever. The second link doesn't work but homni group is the first site anyway.

All the links shows is that Sunfire (and possibly Emotiva based on a picture of their processor) are manufactured in that factory.

Default Current Draw

I'm really interested in Emotiva products. I wonder if special electrical power (i.e., 20A or higher current) lines are needed to feed these amplifiers.

Do you just connect the amp (say XPA-5 or UPA-7) to a standard AC outlet? Is it safe?

In California, standard household electrical outlet is 15A (for 120V appliances). My AV room has 2 AC sockets behind the TV, and 2 more AC sockets on the left-sided wall. Do I have enough current to run an Emo amp? (other components are a 55-in LCD TV, PS3, Pioneer Elite receiver.)

The XPA-5 User Manual recommends a "SEPARATE electrical connection on a SEPARATE circuit." What does that mean?

Comments are greatly appreciated.

Part of this is going to depend on how many devices are on the same circuit. If you have all your gear and other stuff (like lighting) on one circuit, AND you like to play your system loud for sustained periods with everything on, you might want to consider a 20A circuit. Otherwise, a single XPA-5 and your gear on the same 15 amp circuit should be fine. I've ran a biamped LPA-1 setup on a 15 amp circuit without issue, but I also don't play my system to ear-bleed levels very often. However, I just added an XPA-2 and will be adding an XPA-5 in a few weeks to replace my LPAs, and to prepare for it I put it all on a 20A circuit.

Hey red_5ive ~ I am not worried about my circuit But have A question for you !

I am getting ready to buy another amp from Emotiva & can't decide on witch to buy XPA-2 or XPA-3 !I will be putting the new amp on my front 2 or 3 speakers . most of the loud listening is for Blu's & my 2 channel music is at moderate levels because that is done when people around me are home . What do think !!
