Time to show your wallet who is boss

To be honest I was freaking out at Home Depot thinking I had crushed my 1k budget, I didn't look closely at prices while I shopping since I prefer the shock at the register. I asked my wife what she thought we spent prior to check out, we both guessed 2k, which included all the stuff she bought and my house list as well. When all was said and done we only spent $1,270 and that included tax but we still need to get paint. She was ready to go at that point and didn't want to wait for me to pick out paint, lol.

All in all the project is coming along nicely.

It sure is...I'm very excited for you and I think this will turn out to be one heck of a Home Theatre. Can't wait.

Nothing on the construction front, we will be working on it on Saturday except while the US - England match is on....I have spent the last 3 days trying to decide which screen to get

No pic updates yet but all the electrical drops are done as well as the network/coax/hdmi. I was in the attic for a solid 3 1/2 hours running the lines and now I look like I was beat with a sack of doorknobs. We also went to IKEA yesterday and I found a sofa I think I will buy for the room later on.

Glad you had some progress. My planned cleaning was cancelled by rain. The landfill was only open to 4x4's (U-Hauls aren't) and the yard-waste recycle place was closed completely.

I spent the weekend watching my system with the lights off. Can't see the "stuff" that needs to be organized with the lights off....but I knew it was in the house!

Nice, MrFattBill, can't wait to see your updates!

You going with a regular sofa or a sectional type?

After our journey to IKEA the other night I believe I will do one of these to start then add another later down the line. The riser I built is 6" tall for the second row so 2 of these should work great I think, I have a chair and love seat to use initially.

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80126091
It comes with the chase on either end, which also has storage under it, and the section in front of the 2 sofa seats pulls out for a foot rest then up into a sleeper if that doesn't have movie NIGHT written all over it I don't know what does, lol

Well I went to Best Buy this morning and purchased a Mitsubishi HC6800 (still on promo price for $2K) and I will be ordering the Carada 118" 1.78:1 Criterion screen tomorrow. I decided I can deal with the black bars on the top and bottom of my Cinemascope movies (or just top depending) and have the extra space for 16:9 content (games & directv).

Rolling right along

You know, I started out loving when the full screen was filled by the 1.78....but now, it feels a bit more like I'm at the theatre when the image looks so much wider. And I swear, sometimes the black bars look to curve a bit, like the image is actually on a screen.....on my 65" DLP.

By the way, my lamp finally went out....tried to watch last Saturday...all I got was sound. Ordered a replacement from 'a guy' on ebay....am about to call my warranty company now....I bought the 4-year. Guess this way I'll have two lamps coming....will be good to have a back-up!!

April 4, 2008 - June 19, 2010: Is that good for a lamp from Mitsubishi? I don't know, but I do know I certainly watch a ton....so I'm ok with it. (oh, right, the TV was a floor-model too....so that lamp was ON full-time for the first few months or more of its life)

I kept the same width I would have got with a 2.35:1 just added the height so I consider it a gain

Coming along nicely........ One suggestion (if it's not too late) but I would probably make the riser a little higher than 6" perhaps 8", but that's just me...... You'll appreciate the fact once you have two rows of seating.

I was actually thinking about that but we already built 2 4'x5'x6" risers, if they don't work out then the investment in making taller ones will be minimal. I'm having movie withdraw, all the good equipment is sitting in the living room behind the couch not hooked up the wife looked at me the other day and said she couldn't wait until the room was done I told her the only thing she could say to me that would be better then that is
[Show spoiler]sure she can join us

I had to go back into the attic last night to run the speaker wire Other then that I have been pleased with the progress....all things considered. How is the Oppo treating you?

Can a mod please merge this thread with my HT Gallery thread??

Oppo is great, my friend. The amount of features and quality it offers, I couldn't ask for more. I was just posting in my thread about how impressed I am with the weight, the brushed metal front face-plate, add-ons like 2 calibration discs and HDMI cable (all free), and the ability to play virtually every format imagineable, and it's starting to look more and more like a bargain for the $500 I paid.

Not to mention, the subtitle shift feature will be crucial for those of us with projector setups. Especially in your case, with a 2.35:1 screen. Something you should consider.

Bill that picture is making me jealous again. Maybe I could get the empty box after you're done?

tee-hee

nah, I know you'll keep the box, as recommended by the manufacturer.

Not being able to shift subtitles with the PS3 is why I opted for a 16:9 screen to start (well that and I wasn't giving up any width overall by adding the height of the 16:9) Also no need to replace that which works :-P, although I MAY do a fixed 2.35:1 behind it at some point, we will see.

Up until recently I still had the boxes for my launch 360 and PS3, the wife got fed and with the help of a friend (read intervention) I was able to throw them away
