We do from the beginning and end. The Zone is closed off and heavily guarded, but everything outside just goes about its usual business.

It sure is. The world is destroyed by artificial intelligence and people are living inside a fake reality, as Morpheus shows Neo.

For sure, i guess I am seeing a more war torn environment as being apocalyptic, as their home does not seem normal at all as far as a functional society goes but I am sure that is just influenced by the time and country at that very moment.

Even though the world is presumably in a normal state Stalker definitely gives the feeling of a post apocalyptic movie since all we see is the ruined bar and the characters constantly talking about how everyone in the outside world is miserable.

How about Nausicaa for best post apocalyptic movie

Another vote for Nausicaa. I also like the Planet of the Apes series.

ETA: after others' responses I'd include Matrix 1, Terminator 1+2. I like Logan but it's not post-apoc to me.

Nausicaa gets my love too, not only as a favorite post-apocalypse story but also as my favorite anime.

It's been mentioned a page or two back. Although, those posts are so old the film was brand new back then. Has it been eight years already?

Waterworks deserves a remake, think of the potential with today's technology. Also a remake might prompt Universal to release a remaster of the original which would be great.

Blade Runner 2049
Alien 3

I'd say the only ones that actually qualify as post apocalyptic here would be Road Warrior and Cyborg. The Terminator movies have scenes that take place in a post apocalyptic future but the bulk of the story takes place in our present (at the time). Ironically if you'd said Terminator Salvation that would have qualified. BR2049 post apocalyptic? No there is still a fully functional society and one that looks very futuristic and sleek. Alien 3 takes pace in a future where the earth is still fine as far as we know, we don't even see earth so I don't see how that qualify.
