Agree. It is a very good movie, but $30 is steep. What's the deal with retailers getting exclusive BD releases, and nobody knowing about it?

I think he was referring to creating a thread when there's an exisiting thread on the subject. Could have been "phrased" much better.

I am glad this has finally released. Such a great movie. I actually could care less that it's a digibook (I actually like them). However, I agree with what some of you have said. $30 is too steep. I'll wait for it to drop to around $15.

Thumbs up

Since I have all the digibooks that have been released (except for Batman and Falling Down), I have put them all together on my shelf and I think they look good. If you only have a couple and you mix them in with the rest of your collection, I can see how they might "stick out like a sore thumb". Regardless, I like them very much. I especially like the packaging for "300" and "Willy Wonka..."

Anyways, back to the topic of this thread...I just went to my local Best Buy, and sure enough, they had it. Regardless of the $29.99 price tag, I decided to pick it up. It's an excellent film and one that I've been waiting for to be released on Blu-ray.

Got a better Idea...ace the digi's and make all your blus look uniform!

Also yes 30 bucks for this is way way out of line. Will wait until it hits the 14.99 bin. Stll waiting for One Flew and Bonnie and Clyde to drop to the 12-14 dollar rage....17-20 bucks way way to high.

You think that's steep? While I was at Best Buy I noticed another "exclusive" that they were already selling...Monsoon Wedding (Criterion Collection) Blu-ray...It was $42.99!!! (and I thought Barnes & Noble was expensive)...

I like the digibooks also, and will be sure to get this one. I don't buy all of them for the sake of owning them, but so far, they have released a lot of movies in digi-books that I think are worth owning, such as

Batman
Dirty Harry
300
Poltergeist
Matrix
Falling Down
Willy Wonka
One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest
Midnight Express
Natural Born Killers
JFK
Bonnie and Clyde
Amadeus
Shawshank
How the West was Won

and I'm sure there are some others.... I won't buy certain ones, but I enjoyed the above mentioned films enough to justify buying them.

Also, in terms of "Uniformity" I noticed some, like Poltergeist, have a glossy cover, while others like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest have flat/matte covers...... Doesn't matter because I am buying them for the movies, and I think the films they have chosen to put out in Digibook format are mostly good..... The booklets inside are pretty informative too.

I wonder how you keep your collection uniform. Mine has several thicker cases, some digipacks and of course some digibooks. I like the fact that all kinds of cases are put together. Of course, I really like digibooks too. Especially when it has beautiful cover art by Drew Struzan, like The Shawshank Redemption has, and now The Green Mile too.

Just how I personally view it. Still picking this up tomorrow (today).
Greatness is but I was particularly talking about the message. It's a lot more impactful than Shawshank though Shawshank came first and both films have similar elements imo Green Mile is the spiritual sequel.

Yeah, I can't imagine how anyone keeps their collection uniform!

Off the top of my head, I have:

standard-width Sony/Disney style cases
standard-width Viva Elite (WB/Uni/Para style) cases
double-wide Sony/Disney cases (for their 3-4 disc releases, like Rescue Me s3 and Sleeping Beauty)
double-wide Viva Elite cases (Mad Men s1 & 2)
extra-wide Viva Elite cases (Lost s1 and 2, Star Trek TOS s1 and 2)
UK-style wider standard Blu-ray cases
WB and Sony Digibooks
Studio Canal different-sized Digibooks
Criterion cardboard cases
Criterion plastic cases
Big tin cases (Band of Brothers)
Fold-out digipacks for TV series (True Blood, Heroes, South Park)
Slim-case sets (Star Trek movies, Ultimate Matrix collection)
and then whatever random gift-set WB feels like throwing at us (Dirty Harry, Casablanca, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)

All looks fine on the shelf to me.

That is why I switched to Handstand binders. My collection now look like a bunch of uniform black book looking binders that are look classy on the shelf. Plus the cases were getting out of hand and started to look like Blockbuster.

I have almost 400 myself but they're all in cabinets so it's fine, I am running out of space a bit, will need another cabinet soon.

Well I'm not bothered by the un-uniform look, I just can't imagine how those who are deal with it (though I guess you gave one example). I personally don't like the binders - I hate sliding discs into and out of sleeves, I like everything on hubs so I know the disc won't get scratched at all.

In fact, the only cases I change are ones that come with sliding storage for the disc - though in those cases I just put a standard case holding the disc next to the original one with the sliding storage as I wouldn't want to discard the original artwork and information. That makes my collection look extra un-uniform since there are random blank cases here and there to store the discs for the now-empty cases they are next to. Thankfully there are none like that in my BD collection yet, but I have a few in my DVD collection (first 2 Futurama movies, Simpsons s11 and s12), and like 100 in my CD collection (a bunch of studios seems to have gone cheap now and just sell CDs in these fold-out cardboard-only sleeves, yuck).

This story will surprise no one.

I checked online and all of my stores showed stock. So I went in there, and in the BD section, there was a large space cleared where this title would go. Not surprisingly, 0 copies where in it. And of course, no one was around in the media section. When I don't need help, there are 5 people around.

I had to run down a guy working in the tvs. He looked it up in their system, and they had 13 copies. He went to the back and brought out a copy. I can never understand why they always just bring out 1 copy. Why not bring out a few more just in case someone else is wanting this?

Oh well, it's mine. I normally don't pay $29.99 too often, but with this being a favorite of mine and it's in a snazzy digibook, I'll make an exception.

There was no sticker at the shelf for $24.99? I know it's $29.99 at the site because I checked...

Its all about the height....its called buying empty blue cases and printing custom art that actually is better than the studios artwork! Where have ya been?
