Great post Master Yoda.
I can't believe I missed this topic today.

You know what will happen.

I am the owner of many level 5 and you have to be my apprentice.

The dark side you must follow!

I really want to open my Disney and Pixar steelbooks, but I'm afraid I'll accidentally scratch them later on and ruin the art. Are they pretty durable and scratch resistant?

...right.
I'm not one of those collectors that buys steelbooks just because they're steelbooks. I'm not about to buy some crappy movie I don't like just because of the box, or just because it has some different shrinkwrap method. But I've already seen these movies on blu-ray, the reason I bought them was for the art.

The answer to that question would be no imo. SBs are delicate imo.. if not kept properly, they will get scratched so best to buy some of those SB sleeves that are in these threads if you really don't want the artwork scratched or keep them seperately from the rest of the BDs in a way where there will be no opportunity to scratch them.

That's just too much money for a movie.

Yes but I slide the plastic wrapping back on to stop them from getting scratched.

I open mine but then get plastic cases and print out custom covers for them. I then wrap the steelbooks and store them in my home office away from the hands of others.

I don't want to get you guys sleepless nights, but some of you will have a surprise after opening the Disney Steels. As all of them come with an extra paper layer of description, there is much area you can't inspect.

I've opened all of mine the last days as I got a new glass cupboard.
Result was to see a smaller dent on my Cars copy and the Pinocchio had 3 damn bad dents on the back side. It is not repairable so I will try to get another copy.

So some of you do just better not to open them because before I was in belief all of them were in perfect shape....

Cheers

UK Gladiator (couldn't resist)
Snow White

And I have yet to open any of them. I'm not even sure why really. Part of me thinks it's insane to buy movies and not open them but another part of my thinks it equally insane to even consider removing the plastic from these things.

I dunno....
Oh how priorities change over time.

I now open all Steelbooks and only buy the ones if I want the movie.

Good thing about the FutureShop ones is the UPC matches the Best Buy ones so they are easily exchanged in store. I know this creates a problem from you being in Germany.
Pinocchio seems to be the most dented Steel I have seen, then UP is next

Minimize the chance of dents in the back of the steelie hidden by the cardboard is to inspect carefully the cardboard. Just my own experience. It took me from 5-10 minutes to check the steelie before going to the cashier to pay. I was thinking if I am the only fanatic person who did that as I saw a lot of people came and grab the steelie without even check if it's pristine or not. I am glad now, 12 weeks Disney are over, I can rest for the next Tuesdays. 1 or 2 steelies every 2 months should be fine but 12 consecutive weeks for 13 Disney titles + the new releases as Transformers 2, Star Trek, Angels & Demons, Inglourious Basterds, Public Enemies , District 9, for a total of 19 titles in 12 weeks, it's too much for stresses and money. I didn't buy the iron pack T4 and HP.

yes there is no limit to how much to spend. some people pay thousands and thousands of dollars to buy a baseball card. its just some guys picture on a piece of cardboard. but its a hobby. its a collectible. same goes for steelbooks. but we dont have to pay thousands of dollars for just one steel. hehe. i say dont open em. they are worth more sealed!!
