Name a few films that actually scared you
OK...fair enough. Before I would like to post that I heard the exact same comment from my nephew the day I went to see it. He even said to me: "I hear that some people were so scared they had to walk out of the theater". This movie had an incredible marketing campaign that included a lot of propaganda. Yeah, some people took a liking to its "dark horse" / cult status and ran with it. Nothing wrong with that either, I like to see entrepreneurs get rewarded for their ingenuity (marketing in this case). The theater I went to see it was packed to the max...all of possible demographics were represented. Did I hear one scream? No, not till the very last 5 seconds of the movie. Did hear plenty of laughter the entire time. Movies that scared me and I will be 100% honest ( I was a teenager when I saw some of these): The Exorcist, The original B&W Day of the Living Dead, Storm of the Century, Phantasm, The Omen (original), Misery, Halloween (original), Psycho, Seven, Saw, Hellraiser, Silence of the Lambs, Nightbreed, Jaws, The Omega Man (Vincent Price), and The Shinning. Two more: The Others and The Thing.

^^^ those are pretty good movies, horror-wise. Good choices. To be scared by Paranormal, you really have to buy into it. I understand why some people thought it was lame though.

It was sort of "what could be around the next corner" scary. The tension that built through the whole film is what made me on edge.

Exactly...started out not so scary...then after a while I found myself getting anxious every time they set up the camera for the night.

that's just the sort of thing that freaks me out when I see a horror movie-- it's like Hitchcock's analogy of a bomb going off. If a bomb suddenly explodes you may jump, but when you tell somebody that a bomb is about to go off-- that creates tension and unease to an audience... When is it going to explode!? ...

in this case-- when is this horrible thing going to appear in my bedroom?

I heard it makes it scarier if you believe in ghosts, and I don't. But the thing is, I wasn't so scared I couldn't sleep, but it for sure stuck with me. Every corner I turned in my house I thought about it, didn't freak me out afterwards though. But I saw the first midnight screening so I'll admit I was gripping onto my armrest and slept with the light on that night haha.

I went to a midnight showing and I went back to my apartment after. I have to park on the street so I get out of my car and start walking to my apartment when I head a loud CRASH behind me. Someone was setting their trash out to be picked up. One back happened to be a bag of cans. That ruined my nerves for the night. They had already taken a beating from the movie.

The only thing that scares here is the price .... passing on this one.

No kidding. I am not sure if it was the hype surrounding it or if it was just that lame. I just don't get what all the hoopla was about with this movie?

I think this was one of the most hyped movies of all time and it wasn't even that good or not even scary at all. Most people I know laughed through out the movie and no one was scared or even jumped. I think this movie has probably had the most false advertising I had ever seen with all the commercials showing the whole theater screaming and jumping even claiming it the scariest film of all time when none of that even happened.

I didn't really know anything about it going in. Half the people I talked to said it was awesome, the other half said it was totally lame and not scary at all. I fell in the half that liked it. Guess it has a lot to do with your mindset and the setting you see it in.

Yeah I actually agree with that. It wasn't a "jumpy" scary kind of movie at all. It was more slow building creepy. Don't know what part all those people in the commercials were jumping at?

There has to be more features than what's been mentioned. So far, all they say is that it has only ONE alternate ending and another of those BS digital copies. That just can't be it. Even if the price is lowered to 19.99, only having those features would still be too high a price, no matter how good I thought the movie was...then again, my name will be in the credits! We'll see if they mention more features, though. So far, the indication is that there won't be any seamless branching used, which is a little baffling.

seeing as most of the movie is in the dark in nite vision, does anyone think the BD will be that much of a step up from the DVD?
IMO movies like this aint meant to have awesome and clear PQ as it was "a home video". Plus this was shot using a home digital camcorder and not like Cloverfield where bits of it used a proper movie cam.
