i hated when the Olympics were in Europe/Asia/Australia due to Tape-delay and accidentally seeing live info.

now with Vancouver I thought it would be much better.
oh well.

I'm so glad to see Bode Miller medal in his first event, after the disaster that was his Olympics four years ago. Vancouver is already off to a much better start for him than Turin.

wow...
not at all, just pointing out that it was a stupid comment that not even you beleive. Someone would need to be psychopathic to believe it. The issue was also not about how they won, I don't thin anyone said the US did not deserve that medal because the Koreans fell, what made his comments un-sportsman like is that he was happy in the misfortune of the others. Any real sportsman would rather win on skill then the bad luck of their competitor.

Falls are part of sporting events such as speed skating. It has nothing to do with sportsmanship at all in my eyes when one is glad to see it benefit his country when it is part of the sport. Two of the Koreans missed the podium because of falls, and two of the Americans earned a medal because of that. It made me very happy to see Ohno and Celski on that podium, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Guess there's no need to cheer him on when I watch it tonight now that I know the outcome...

It was so tiresome to hear about how he was born Canadian and than left to essentially compete for Australia. Sounded like they were incredibly sour about it but it's his choice.
Quote:
I know right. You'd have thought he'd murdered a baby then joined Team Australia judging by the way they sounded when addressing him.
lol, the irony, according to both of you it should only be about the win and the medal and then you both have an issue when some see it as a treacherous act that if he competed for his native land Canada would be doing a bit better.

Not to say I don;t find women's hockey interesting but when you really think about it Canada and the United States are the only teams with a hope at gold. I mean with scores like 18-0 and 12-1 it can get pretty uninteresting to watch at times.
it is not the only two (wasn't the Turin final Canada Sweeden) but I agree, at 4:0 Canada-Switzerland I switched from V to CTV to watch other events.

That is one great thing about Canada with two languages we have two stations, you add NBC which most get and there is never a reason to watch anything boring.

I hope not, how else will there be high calibre if there are no big events for it. Also it is not like the summer Olympics where there are just too many events, there is no need to cut anything.

I'm really sorry, I figured since it's all over ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and even the news networks that people would have known. I guess we are going to start having to use spoiler tags for the Olympics until after the primetime coverage?

Who is favored to win the gold for men's hockey this time? Is any team a real threat to Canada?

Man's Hockey is always a hard call, the issue is that it is a team sport and none of them (especially Canada/US) are teams. They are great players but they are not used to playing together and on the same lines.

It's not an issue, it's an observation. I didn't want them to talk about it for 4 hours +. We get it, he's born here he's not competing for Canada, get over it. You're just looking for arguments huh?

I believe Russia is the favourite, but what value does that carry? It's all about goaltending.

and the fact that it's 1 game, not a 7 game series. Sweden is going to be really good as well. The favorites : canada, russia underdogs : usa, sweden

No.... we were merely saying that the commentators made way too big of a deal about it.

NBC's coverage (if that's what you can call it) is so awful that I turned the channels. I HATE NBC.

I'm pretty happy with the Canadian coverage. 3 channels all trying not to overlap. I've only come across 1 or 2 live events on more than 1 channel at the same time. Combine that with a PVR and I haven't missed a thing I cared about.

I think American-born, Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper columnist and author George Will summed it up best:
Quote:
"Sins can be such fun. Of the seven supposedly deadly ones, only envy does not give the sinner at least momentary pleasure. And an eighth, schadenfreude — enjoyment of other persons' misfortunes — is almost the national pastime."
