I think it's difficult with our said hobby, because in general, not always though, you want to get the most current equipment. I know there are classic Amps/receivers, and even some of the Pioneer Plasmas, and I think a few projectors and speakers, but for the most part you are trying to be as current as possible, and therefore are subject to the ebb and flow of the market and sales of the equipment.

I think budget wise I do OK, however in the last 6 months, I have bought 2 budget busters as well as some other 'necessities'.

KURO - $1800
RX-Z11 - $1800
tv stand - $300ish
ERD-1s - $260ish
Misc cable - $30

Ugh..Actually this is kind of depressing. $4k+ over 6 months! My short term goal (within the next 1-3 years) is to move into a house, and spending money like this won't help. The only other item I had decided to get this year was a matching center channel which will run right around $350.

That's still not bad - and you have some top notch gear to show for it!

When my 32" RCA went out on me I replaced it with a 37" Polaroid LCD. Went out on the 3rd day so I returned it for a refund at Circuit City. The manager gave me a 42" Samsung for the same price($800). I got an upconverting DVD player, and was fine with it. Then Sony had the first price drop on the PS3 and I was talked into getting one. Shortly after I bought a Panasonic HTIB. I told myself that was it. Lasted all of three months.

started first with a Kenwood HTiB that didnt have a powered sub for $400. Then went to a Sony receiver with Infinity Entra 5.1 set that was on sale to finish up the Home Theater that also had a 50" Sammy 720p DLP that was upgraded from a 32" CRT (which weighed over 200lbs). This system lasted a long time until I finally got the almost-dream TV, a 50" Kuro non-elite, dream TV would be a 60" Elite. Then came the need for HDMI receivers and the Sony non-HDMI was moved to bedroom. Later I wanted bedroom set to have HDMI also so bought a new one and moved current one to the bedroom. When my brother bought a new town home and I helped him pick out (paid for some of it too) equipment for his HT I went with the eD setup. After hearing his sub during Iron Man, well, I had to have a eD sub also.

Happy to say the home theater is now complete and I've no desire to upgrade any parts that I can afford to upgrade. The system in the gallery is a bit outdated as the Sony receiver and the PS3 (which has been sold and replaced with a slim model) have been moved upstairs to the bedroom and replaced with a Pio 1019 receiver and the Oppo BD-83 player. Center channel is replaced with a Martn Logan Encore TF that is short enough to sit in front of the TV instead of having to be placed behind it.

I don't even want to count how much every HT equipment I've bought adds up to.
