This is one of those areas that bugs me about Blu-ray forums, 80% of the people of them are now saying DVDs are cr*p because they're not as good picture quality as Blu-ray, which is true, but they are still perfectly watchable and even some films are questionable as to why you need to see them in Hi-Def anyway.
As for me well, I've just started on Blu-ray and so still have loads of DVDs, but all new releases I'll buy on Blu, unless for some reason it only comes out on DVD.

I only buy/watch DVD if I know a blu-ray is not forthcoming.
I only watch my existing DVDs infrequently, and only when they are a title that won't hit blu-ray (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) or one that won't be coming to blu-ray for a while.

The only DVD I've bought in the last ~year was when they finally re-released On Her Majesty's Secret Service for a decent price.

Simply put, if you have a good TV then you should be buying BRs to take advantage of it. It bothers me to watch movies on (non-HD)TV or DVD now that I've gone blu.

I generally just check this site or Amazon for release dates of the DVD's I have and then sell them once I get a confirmed Blu Ray date. The exceptions are my Star Wars/Indy/BTTF movies that are on a hard drive that I take on trips to watch on my laptop. Only have about 10-15 movies left.lol

I still buy DVDs sometimes. For instance....."A River Runs Through It" is about $29 on amazon. The widescreen DVD at Target and Wal-Mart is $5. I like the movie, but it isn't a classic or a must-have on Blu-ray...the DVD makes more sense.

I still use DVD's about 80% of the time, Blurays are more of a treat for me than a necessity. Being an anime fan roughly 95% of my favorite shows only have DVD releases or are still only being released on DVD.

Anyway ill bunch up the reasons why I still use DVD most of the time.

-95% of anime titles have no Bluray releases, and im not a big movie fan

-There aren't many commercial Bluray recorders available in the US, (in fact none under $1000) and I love recording off tv with my DVD recorder.

-Bluray discs tend to be to expensive, I only buy ones on sale/clearance unless its an absolute favorite.

-Most of my family and friend haven't adopted Bluray, and for them to watch one I have to downvert it into a DVD-R.

nothing ...i still have them and probably wont upgrade most.

I have all the Adam Sandler, Judd Aptow, Kevin Smith flicks and i wont upgrade those or any future releases by them. except for the 2 for $20 deal that best buy had. picked up Funny People. I figured if im gonna get a Blu by one of those guys, might as well be the one that 2 have worked on

movies that ill upgrade are the Back to the future trilogy. I own the DVDs with the framing issue. When i bought it i didn't know about the problem so its too late.

Can't give up on DVD's yet. In our family we watch movies on portable players computers and ripped to ipod/phones along with SD CRT TV's. We only have one (large) HDTV that we mainly use for movie nights. So the end user aspect keeps us in the DVD camp. Heck we still have tons of kids VHS's. I have been buying blus of favorite movies just as an HD option for the "movie night tv" -- more of a special treat. I won't be getting rid of any DVD's for a long time, but I will reduce the DVD purchases to a trickle (mostly tv shows or kids vids). I just can't see giving up on DVD's anytime soon just based on practicality. In an ideal world all our tv's and players would be blu based but it just isn't there yet. When it is common for all computers to have blu, and portable blu players are available in the $100 range, and you can rip them down to ipod size (in a practical way) etc. then I will rethink the conversion.

Too many old films aren't out on Blu yet, and not all new films i care about get a Blu release. As long as that's the case, i'll still get the occasional DVD.

It seems to me only the most main of mainstream movies and shows get Bluray releases.

That seriously brothers me, Bluray won't be a viable full scale replacement for DVD until it starts getting everything not just the newest releases from the giants.

I went to Blockbuster on Friday night and they have like 40 copies of "The Road" on DVD and 3 copies on Blu-ray. Of course the Blu-ray's are already rented out...so I had to watch it on DVD.

This really peeves me and I let them know it! Places like Blockbuster need to start weening people off DVD and phase it out completely.

You can go to any Flea Market and buy any movie on DVD for $2. This alone is killing the Blu-ray market not to mention the DVD market as well.

DVD will not rest until Blurays are both affordable, practical and cover every genre. (not just mainstream hollywood)

This site doesn't even list most of the Blurays in my collection.

i dont know... im lucky that i have a frys near my house and the new releases always cost 19.99. the new release gets you the blu-ray & dvd along with that digital copy. So 6.66 per copy of the movie is almost the price of a rental. If you look coupons are everywhere for blus so its becoming cheaper and cheaper to convert to blu but still have an SD copy of a flick.

Bluray may be winning every day people with big hollywood titles but there are alot of niche markets it hasn't scratched the surface of.

The biggest complaint I hear about Bluray from both people online and people I know IRL is needing a firmware update every time they buy a new movie.... its just ridiculous.

Yea, that detracts a lot of people since most of them don't know wth is going on sometimes with the firmware updates.

I pretty much gave up on dvd a while back. The only dvds i ever watch are the ones that aren't out on Blu-ray yet, and a few of them have been shown on hd cable/sat already.

Nope. I still buy DVDs all the time and Blu-rays here and there as I find them cheap.
