Default Don't blame Paramount, take action at the source

I see many people angry at Paramount and Dreamworks when really people should look at the source of all these headaches: Microsoft.

Paramount, Dreamworks and Universal are just being greedy and taking Microsoft's money, I don't like it either but I can't blame them since they are businesses.

You, as individuals however can make choices based on morals, principals and personal tastes. Each individually we don't have much power but collectively over time movements can have surprising results.

Where am I going with this? Boycotting non Blu-ray movie is a start but it's more like just treating the symptom. The real cure is to address the root cause, in this case Microsoft. Microsoft is all about eliminating customer choices contrary to what they would have you believe (like where is the Blu-ray add-on for the 360 ).

Whenever people buy any Microsoft monopoly funded products (Microsoft Vista, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Zune, Microsoft Xbox360, Microsoft based smartphone, etc.) they are actually funding Microsoft war machine that constantly buys exclusivity in all their markets to further extend their monopoly. An endless cycle as long as people keep feeding the fire and buying Microsoft's products.

I know many of you (like me) use a lot of their products and couldn't replace them all right away, but when comes the next time to upgrade or make a new purchase, thinks carefully about whether or not you really want to feed the monster and indirectly hurt your choice as a customer down the road (such as Blu-ray).

It's hard to see how anybody can justify buying movies in either format now. Any movies you buy, in either format, could be worthless pieces of junk in the future. When companies can be bought for such small amounts of money (and $150m is a small amount of money compared to lifetime format royalties), then this war can swing either way at any time in the future.

I'm done buying high def discs for now. I backed Blu-ray because it looked like it was going to rapidly become the dominant format, and I wanted to support that happening. I really don't want to buy another high def disc now till there's only one format in the marketplace. I'd prefer that one format to be Blu-ray, but if the movies aren't on sale I can't buy them to support the format.
Well, I have a PS3. It's not going anywhere. Any BD disc I buy...it's not going anywhere, either.

I don't see the problem.

It's a self-defeating prophecy: "I don't believe BD is going to take over quickly anymore so I'm going to stop buying it altogether."

Doesn't make sense.

i cant believe i actually supported MS with the original XBOX. Guess you can say they were the underdog during that generation. But now seeing how greedy they are with tearing apart both formats just so their digital downloads can reign supreme, is very disappointing to see.

I'd love to see a huge Spielberg announcement just to slap Paramount in the face.

Default BB blue but Paramount HD? Viacom owns both?

How can a parant company be so ignorant. BB goes blue and now paramount goes HD. With over 5,000 BB's in the US, how much money did Paramount just lose in video sales to BB in hi-def sales over the course of this deal?

This also seems like it would be a blow to BB being blue ray exclusive.

Just makes this whole thing seem even more shady.

Especially since you already have the Blu-ray Player.
I can understand someone sitting on the fence waiting for the war to be over before joining, but if you already sided Blu-ray, bought a Player and X amount of Blu-rays. Why rejoin the sidelines if you already spent all that money already? Why not continue?

Moral goes down and everyone runs away.

I'm looking ahead 20+ years, beyond the PS3's lifespan. I no longer have confidence I'll be able to play discs in either high def format then. If we could have pressed home a rapid victory and achieved one format, then I would have had confidence that whatever replaces it in 10 years would need to support it, and longevity would be assured. At the moment I don't see assured longevity for either format.

I don't believe me buying Blu-ray discs will achieve anything now - a large proportion of my pre-order queue was Paramount, those are gone, what am I supposed to do, buy some movies I have no interest in to support Blu-ray? Why would I do that, the BDA aren't going to pay me to do it, what's in it for me to prop the format up in that way?

Not gonna miss anything now. I've made the decision to buy an HD DVD player. Any true movie fan would be crazy now to be Blu-ray only.

Angry PARAMOUNT CAN GO F*@#k>KEEP BUYING BLU-RAYS!!

This is the most retarded thing Ive ever seen a company do.Your making money on a format thats selling better and you bend over and take up the watsu!!Please dont stop buying Blu-Rays.If anything buy more if you can.Look at all the great titles that are coming. In the long run Blu-ray will be the victor and Paramount will have no choice to come and play.Let them throw all there money away.It will kill them even quicker.GOD DAME IAM PISSED AT PARAMOUNT.I WANT THEM ALL TO GO TO HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
