I normally only buy Blu ray that I enjoy and it must be reference quality in both video and audio . Normally action, horror and animated films. It may not be the best movie in terms of plot, story or character but as long as it is at least a 4 out 5 in both the video and audio department, then I will purchase it. I also prioritize my blu ray collection in alphabetical order.

I go by price and mainly only buy the films I really love (the ones I know I’ll watch more than once). I have a $15 rule on most films, and a $10 rule on a few titles I like well enough to own, but not well enough to spend much on.

I don’t buy movies that get bad AQ reviews unless it is some obscure title that will probably never see another release on the format. Otherwise, I wait for a proper remaster.

I don’t care about slipcovers or steelbooks or special collector’s items (such as the upcoming Alien Anthology egg), but I do like the added DVD disks and digital copies that come with some blus.

I’m always on the lookout for killer deals on the titles I want.

Price plays a factor but I don't buy a movie just because it's cheap. I'd still need to have some interest in it first. My movie collecting is all over the place really. There's no brainer choices for me to want to get but some always get superceded by films that kind of come out of nowhere either by seeing something on tv or a new film review on this or other sites etc.

Sometimes there is structure such as when I bought my three disney blu-rays in sucession but usually there's no consistency. I don't do optical disc upgrades at all though.

Simply buy the movies I have seen literally hundreds of times, not anything more, not anything less. Price is irrelevant for me. That is why my collection is small, they have not put out the other ones I have seen hundreds of times.

It is like collecting basketball and baseball cards back in the day. You would hunt down a single player at comic and card shops, blind buying would be like buying a whole pack of cards, you will get some Sam Bowies, or Michael Jordans.

Most often, I buy anything on my wishlist when it is a low enough price. The catch with this is that many of those films are so cheap that I would need to order it with something else to qualify for free shipping at Amazon. However, if a film has been such a high price for so long (Moon), and it drops significantly ($25 to $15), I'll jump on it instantly. Also, if there is a highly anticipated release coming out that I'm really interested in, I'll purchase it regardless of the price. I don't have any real system to how I collect them, but price and anticipation are the two factors that bring me to purchasing Blus.

buy all mine Used from Blockbuster/Rogers Video. and the trading forum here and hi-def digest. Most i will pay for a movie is $15 and that is only on new releases. Box Sets and tv seasons I pay up to 40 depending what it is

I blind buy all the time. For $9 you can't really go wrong.

Since I have all of my favorites on DVD (that is if they actually released on DVD), I usually only rebuy films that are really worthy of the BD format. The same goes for totally new releases. Unlesss there's something to be gained from an HD source (Avatar or The Fifth Element as examples), I either stick with the DVD I already have, or opt for the DVD new release... Unless I can get a good deal on something. Then I'll buy the BD.

Of course in the cases where they package the BD & DVD together, I always take that option.

I buy what I know I like. I almost never blind buy, and I don't buy based on genre. Basically when a movie I want hits a low enough price I get it.

Exactly how I operate... and I have nearly 100 Blus in my Amazon cart right now. I keep them there, wait for them to hit a price I'm willing to pay and then buy. I check Amazon multiple times per day as I've found their prices can change at a moment's notice.

Agreed. Sometimes I pick up something I'm slightly interested in if the price is right.

Example: Today I wanted Darkman. Solo is $25 or so but at Best Buy, was 2 for $20, so I ended up getting Dune with it as well.

It all depends on what is on sale, most of the time.

For New Releases, I think I've paid retail for a grand total of one title - the new Trek when it came out. I don't buy many of these period - there are not a ton of new films that I feel the need to own (that's why God invented Netflix).

For newly available Catalog titles, there have been a couple (most recently Showgirls) that I will pay the $20 they ask on release day, just for my true favorite films that I really want to own (Tin Man is coming tomorrow on release day). I usually have Amazon Prime so it's great to get things delievered on release day for "free".

For Box Sets, it really depends on how much I want the title. Mostly I'll either wait for a sale, or recently I have been buying them from Amazon.uk because of the great prices. For example, I have wanted Batman Anthology for awhile, but was unwilling to spend the $75 on Amazon or the $90ish that they want in stores. I got it for $28 - INCLUDING SHIPPING - from Amazon.uk and it took less than a week to arrive. I have preordered two box sets - Alien Anthlogy and BTTF - but that's going to be the rarity, those just happen to be two of my favorite film series (the only other series I can think of that I'd preorder would be SCREAM or Star Wars).

For catalog titles in general, though, $10 is my magic point. A good portion of my collection is $10 or less films that I enjoy but aren't absolute favorites that I watch regularly. For example, I have Interview With a Vampire because I got it for $7.99 - I haven't watched it yet, will probably hit it up around Halloween. That's why my collection seems slightly skewed at the moment - the bulk of these titles depends on films I like that are on sale, as opposed to which ones are my absolute favorites or not.

My first criteria is usually price. I'll go through all the $10 Blu-Rays I can find, and if I can't find anything decent there, I'll move up to the $15 price range, but become a bit more hesitant to purchase.

When I'm searching through a price range, I've already got most of my favorite movies on Blu-Ray so far, but occasionally I'll find a phenomenal movie I haven't seen in a long time that will really catch my eye. The Princess Bride for instance. It's a great movie, and even though it's not $10, I don't have it on DVD nor have I seen it in a really long time, so I picked it up.

So I'd have to say:
Top 25 favorite movies > Price > Do I own it on DVD? > Desirability > Cult classics > Drama/Action flicks > Comedies > Suspense > Horror > Chick Flicks

Another movie I've got my eye on is Unleashed. It comes out September 14th on Blu and I've already preordered it.

As far as specific genres of movies I like to buy, it really all depends on my mood around that time.

If I am not sure about a movie, I'll get it from netflix first. My blu-ray collection will only have movies I want to watch multiple times. There is no reason to buy a movie and only watch it once. I'd rather rent than own movies that only get viewed once.
