This seems to be the same "news" as in the older thread https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-te...-bd-sales.html

I hate the way people cant see the difference between DVD and Bluray. There is a massive difference.

This was posted the other day that sales have risen greatly. There is two different things being said.

+1. I've been saying this for along time now. People see this prices in store and think blu-ray's are too expensive and they can't afford to upgrade. We were in Target the other day and most of the Disney and Pixar and movies are price tagged at $34.99. That's absurd.

Don't believe what everyone says. Empire is just a digital download fanboy.

Empire's a steaming turd of a magazine and has been for quite a few years now. Industry back-scratchers who award mediocre studio films their highest mark and they always have an agenda.

If you enjoy something you shouldn't care if others are consuming it or not. Ferrari owners don't care if the cars they love sell in big numbers or not.

Blu rays are for hobbyists imo, it should not be the bench mark standard for people who want to watch movies.

people care because unlike a Ferrari that can be driven on every road, you need companies making BD players and people buying BD movies for a healthy environment.

On the other hand, as many have pointed out and I on page 1, https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-te...ml#post3333505

the numbers don't support the assertion at all. But today there is no longer this idea of journalism. One publication has some garbadge by an idiot and then all the fanboys at other places jump on it and help spread the manure without doing any research to see if what they read actualy stands. So there is nothing to worry about.

Blu-ray barely sells here in South Korea. I wish it did, so prices would come down more.

The problem here is that downloading is still rife. I only wish they'd come along with something like Netflix that was legal, but they don't even try because everyone still pirates everything. Despite a few face-saving "crackdowns" on DVD pirates on the street in Yongsan, others are selling typical crap pirate DVDs just down the street where they've always been. If the Korean government is taking a "we can't stop it" stance, then I can say from experience of living here that such a response is TOTAL CRAP. They have enough control over what happens here that they could literally stop 90% of pirating within three days if they truly wanted to do something about it -- but they don't.

Blu-ray is pushed as a premium-only product, and movies and players are sold at premium prices (even though few are buying). They have removed all but 3D players from the sales floors of most showrooms (save the occasional half-used demo players they're dumping), and do NOTHING to help the format appeal to the common man. This is very, very sad, because LCD/Plasma/LED penetration is among the highest in the world here!

I did find a nice deal on an LG BD390 from a web retailer, new in the box -- quite happy with it. Wish I could have found such a price from a brick-n-mortar store, but that's impossible when they expect another $100 on top of US prices for each player.

I have had friends in the military tell me you can get movies currently in theaters(in the US) 3 for $10(rough exchange rate). And that was in a store, not some backroom or someones trunk. I really can't understand why nothing is done, unless someone's getting paid off.

I think BD sales in Hong Kong is the worst in the world as more than half home entertainment shoppers still favor VCD !! (a media with resolution lower than a quality VHS tape)

A few pages back it was mentioned that SD-DVD players never needed firmware updates. However, during SD-DVD's early years, several players did need firmware upgrades when "The Matrix" was released.

Back on topic, I feel even here in the states DVD and Blu-ray will continue to co-exist for quite some time but SD-DVD will continue to dominate.
Some folks are just not obsessed with picture quality (like us) and are perfectly happy watching movies via SD-DVD, but that is cool, to each there own.

Then they're are idiots like this guy ranting on his YouTube blog (CLICK HERE) about how much Blu-ray sucks. Some foul language, in the video, but his idiocy gave me a laugh and made it quite entertaining.

Yep, I've seen the same prices here in Canada, and I even bought few at those prices (with tax, $40)!

Now, NAVA! No more of this total absurdity, non-sense from the rip-off artists of this planet? ...The scums that degrade our values! ...That pollute our senses!...

He looks just like Bernie from the following Frosted Flakes commercial.
