Totally agree, I never read DVD reviews but now reviews make or break my buying decision

Sad thing is it would be a better feature then BDLive.
There was a restless baby at a recent 10:25 PM screening of A-Team. Number one, past its bedtime.. number two, LOUD film... number three, bad parenting.

It's simple that a good to outstanding high definition transfer can improve your viewing of any movie, including the oldest of film, because you basically see the film more of how it was meant to be seen by the director. Even if it's just a decent transfer. But I always feel like even with a poor transfer, a BD can at least be somewhat better than a DVD, like The Fugitive for example. It's a poor transfer, but it's still at least somewhat better than the DVD I use to have. Although I never really watched the DVD upconverted. But I thought it was evident, that the blu-ray did more than what the DVD could possibly do. And that's to make the image much more clearer and a little more digitally "eye popping".

Use to, it was all about "watching" movies. Now you have the ability to "live" them. You get to live the director's vision.

The newness factor wore off for me sometime ago. Its nothing more then the current movie format for me, and dvd is like vhs was when i went full fledged dvd, i may buy it still from time to time, if its cheap but normally not.

I NEVER understood the concept of only buying action flicks on blu-ray, i never thought that way about dvd, and actually just attribute that statement more to misinformation and lack of knowledge on HD in general. It can be confusing for some i guess, as i hear that often. I also hear people say things like "it just didn't look like blu-ray", which to me translates as it did not look like Leno in HD. Rather then looked exactly as it should, great!

The format is definitly great for me being a fan of movies, and is the only format i buy anymore, aside from a few stray titles lost from my dvd collection not yet out on blu, and i won't pass up any good movie based on format.

Furthermore, with us being in SD, we have all the more reason to focus our attention on Blu-ray and home theater since 9 months out of the year is spent fighting freezing winds and blizzards upon stepping outside.
haha...i'm in rapid city. The winds and blizzards don't bother me very much. But yeah it's a good excuse to stay inside and watch movies lol

kind of like the asian guy at the prince of persia midnight screening i attended.

he slept through many of the action scenes which almost gave me head trauma
and he made a few favorite fans at the end of the film..
that most likely kicked the living crap out of him

i mean when i say he snored.. during the silent parts it sounded like it was a blooper in the movie and then during the action scenes it was like hearing The Exorcist Growling and crap..

My personal belief is that blu-ray may be the best movies may ever look. New or old. So I have been thinking about them in more a film preservation light.

I have been looking at older titles and thinking I should get this one or that one for the historical value. There are many Criterion titles for example I am interested in.

It has been an interesting shift in thought. What do you all think about it? Or am I just a goofball?
You are not.

It is not as drastict as you but before BD came out, I was thinking I would buy new movies on BD but I will limit myself on catalogue titles to just the ones I watch often (like every year or two) but I find that even though I have the DVD and might not have seen it in years I can't help myself to re-buy it but this time on BD.

As for my initial plan, I was like you. I figured "I'll only get movies with heavy special effects, action scenes, etc." I thought "BD is pointless for things like romantic comedies and such".

But of course I abandoned that plan very quickly and am 100% converted.

I don't know whether BD will be as strong a format as DVD was, or whether it's just a placeholder until digital distribution becomes the norm, but it's not the fringe format some people still claim it is. They're releasing titles as fast, or faster, than I can buy them, so I see nothing to complain about.

Sure, there are plenty of movies that still haven't been released that I'm waiting for, but that was true of DVD as well.
Agreed 100%

For this reason I prefer to wait for Blu releases now, unless it's something I can't wait to see.

I want to replace my entire DVD collection on Blu-Ray eventually. I never bought into other people saying stuff like only newer action movies with lots of special effects will look better on Blu-Ray. Some movies I prefer to wait until the price goes down, like if it's a movie I'm not as crazy about as I was years ago, but still want it.
Still, I still don't think DVDs are terrible now that I'm a Blu-Ray collector. I know some people have said that there were times they wanted to watch a movie they had on DVD, but decided to wait a few years, hoping that it would come out on Blu-Ray. If I want to watch a movie and don't have it on Blu, I don't mind watching the DVD.
