Someone go outside to the forest with 2 friends & re-film the original movie with a HD camcorder
![]() Its a shame that aside from sound this will look exactly the same as it did on DVD. Ages ago, when I first saw it in cinema I wondered why it wasn't in widescreen but then I shortly found out the reason. Cropping it to 16:9 would be a bad mood & I'm not willing to buy it on blu-ray for an increase of sound alone as much as I like this movie (still own it on dvd) |

I guess its a bit like buying 'Clerks' on blu-ray. You just know you're not going to get HD material & its only good for making it look less pixelated on bigger screens

CLERKS was shot on film, this was shot on 480i videotape. There's a dramatic difference between those 2 movies, I don't think you can even compare the two.

I love the film but it's not high on my BR priority list. When it's down to about $12 or less I'll pick it up. I don't expect much from a technical standpoint. I mean the way it was shot was one of things I loved about it: it was a totally unique experience, and very scary. But it doesn't have the kind of infinite rewatchability as horror classics like Alien, Psycho, and The Exorcist (all coming to BR October incidently).

it wasn't shot on super 8mm film, it was shot on 8mm video tape... not that there's much difference quality-wise.

Just to re-cap:
1) Half the film (the black & white portions) was shot on 16mm film. That portion may benefit from an HD upgrade. 2) The other half (the color portions) was shot on Super 8 Home Video. That portion will not benefit from an HD upgrade. 3) Some of the audio was recorded using a DAT machine. That portion may benefit from a lossless upgrade. 4) Some (most?) of the audio was recorded using the camcorder’s internal mic. That portion most likely will not benefit from a lossless upgrade. Given that half (probably more) of the audio was recorded “guerilla style” by the actor’s themselves using the camcorder’s internal microphone will they even be able to give us lossless audio? If they can even provide lossless audio will they be able to provide a 5.1 or 7.1 soundtrack? I know Lions Gate is famous for giving us 7.1 soundtracks whenever possible, but keep in mind that when this was originally released on DVD all we got was a 2.0 soundtrack and that was well into the 5.1 era so I wonder if a 5.1 or 7.1 soundtrack is even possible for this particular title given the source material. Most likely we will get the same 2.0 lossy track, at most a 2.0 lossless track. |
