So the point is that the 953 count is according to the old way of counting. In case you will be looking at the old way of counting then something like Batman Anthology was counted as one while it contains 4 BDs but now it is counted as 4 with the new count . I have many other box sets.

Which way of counting gives you an approximate figure that is close to the real count?? The new way of course. Because the old count reduces even a box set of 5 or 6 BDs to one!!

Oh I agree with the new way, in certain instances such as box sets. The Toy Story Toy Box should count as three movies. The problem is the database also tracks free or promotional items as movies, such as the Toy Story 3 Best Buy steelbook.

I personally like to track how many BDs I own, not just movies. That way it's easier to inventory and I know what belongs where. Tracking 100 movies when I have 80 BDs on my shelf can be very confusing.

I got your point. The current count is more accurate if you are looking at the movies and not the discs. In case it will count on the BDs then the count can be really big because something like Blade Runner would be counted as 5 BDs, while right now it is counted as 1. However the new count is more accurate in terms where box sets are involved.

To summarize all this:
- Old count system was counting an item as 1 only, even if that item had 6-8 BDs of all all different movies. (End result: Much decreased number of collection).

- New Count system: counts the movies inside the item, if an item is a box set of 3 movies then the count will be three (End result: somehow more near accurate system)

Hit 1,200 a couple of days ago (Despite the changes my numbers are still a little off here but so happy they finally changed that). Probably won't hit 1,300 this year so it will be my last +100 milestone of the year unless there is some insane boxing day sale with a ton of Blu-Ray deals I can't pass up on

Well boxing day was terrible this year.......... but I ended getting more over the course of a month than I planned and I am sitting on 1,298 so maybe I will hit 1,300 afterall this year Also getting pretty close to surpassing my DVD collection that is in the 1,500 range. Still amazes me how fast I got hooked on Blu-Ray to be growing at such a rapid pace compared to my DVD collection.

Though at some point I want to reach 1000 or even 2000 blus...with what is out there now, I wouldnt want to own that many. Too many 'dud' titles I would never even considering owning. But hey, each to his/her own

Great collections.

I like it.

I saw an episode of Hoarders Buried Alive where the hoarder had a house filled with VHS. It was so sad and even worse everyone was going through his stuff throwing them all out. VHS is much less collectable since it degrades every time you watch one and it's got mechanical moving parts and all that stuff.

I think about that episode a lot. I love having a video library and mine just grows and grows. Getting close to 400 Blus now I realize I've got a lot of watching to do to sort of "catch up" with it.

I have CD's from the late 80's that I still listen too. They playback good as new. As I remember they were $15 or something when the format was new. Actually I guess they still cost that much.

I know my Blus will still function as if they were new several years after I'm gone. Someone's going to be sorting out my collection thinking "What the hell was he thinking when he bought this?"

I'm at 1025 according to DVDAF (in my signature) and 1015 according to here. I'm not sure why they are different considering both of them are suppose to count 1 movie/tv season = 1. Anyway, here's a pic of my storage shelf. I picked this bad boy up at Hollywood Video when they closed down. The picture was taken right after I picked it up so it's not quite up to date, but you get the point.

Jobber8742: movie box sets, such as Bourne or The Matrix trilogy count as one on this site. I'm actually at 192, despite what my number says. That's because I have a number of box sets.

Box sets are now counted as the number of movies. That changed a couple of months ago.

By my calculations, based on what I own and how long it took me, it'll be 17 years before I can legitimately join this thread. See ya then!

great collections to everyone in the thread!

i recently went through and made a list of titles i would like to own on blu-ray, including about 70 that aren't even out yet and we may not see for years, if ever, and my list, so far, has maxed out at 398!

i'm sure i'll be in the 1,000+ club in about 10 years or so

There are still some things that DVDAF count as multiple movies that this site counts as one which causes the difference. Personally I keep a spreadsheet as the only one I consider 100% accurate since it is what I consider either a single movie or multiple movie and both DVDAF and here are missing stuff so only way to actually list everything.

Somebody with 100 or something like that saying that would make more sense since approaching 700 isn't exactly considered a small collection either Duds are all about how somebody themself feel about a movie and not what the general consensus is. Personally I have not rented since VHS and hate theaters so only go if friends really want to see something which leaves me blind buying most movies. Do I end up with movies like Mamma Mia that are duds that I hate? Yeah. Do I end up with movies that get a lot of hate that I end up liking? Yeah. It is a risk but I am fine taking it.

---------------------------------------------------

Anyway, hit 1,300 today so another +100 club before the year end for me Really falling behind on updating my Home Theater Gallery collection pictures so guess I should update that soon.

I totally agree about the 'dud' factor. What is a dud flick to me may be gold to someone else. If someone said go out and spend $500 on a bunch of blu's, I would probably have a hard time doing so for I dont think I could find that many titles I would want. I have a nice size collection with a lot of 'gold titles' in there. I am happy with it. If someone has 2000 blu's....cool...if someone has 100 blu's...cool. Its all about the enjoyment of collecting, not the amount.

Wow then my count is way off.

Just counted, and yep, I only have 182 total. Oops! That's a pretty nifty feature.
