I haven't received the Arrow from HMV yet, unfortunately haven't watched the Criterion in a while (years I believe...). Kind of wish I kept on to it until I had the Arrow in hand. Was hoping it had better grain management as most Arrows tend to have over the Criterion counterpart and of course the means to upscale to 4K (I have a Region A BR player and a Region B UHD player).

UpsetSmiley not being rude about it '(I have a Region A BR player and a Region B UHD player' UHD players, if you mean like my Oppo 230, UHD isn't region locked by speifications

Poor phrasing on my part sorry, I was trying to distinguish that my UK UHD player won't play region A Blu-ray discs as I know some people have those all-in-one 4K players which play everything.

UpsetSmiley it is all right. I came to DVD/ Blu and 4K UHD very aware of regions, many years ago I used to have VHS & Laser disc that would play NTSC on UK TVs using NTSC 4.43, so when I bought a Pioneer 717 DVD player I knew to have it modded before it left the shop.

Arrow == worse and appears to have some filtering applied to it. I own both - consider me unbiased. (I am the most objective guy you'll find anyway)

Someone else, who cares more than I do, is welcome to provide more comparison caps. I'm sure those will show the same. I for one lost interest after the second one.
Softer =/= filtered. Different encode settings, slow vs fast, bitrates etc. they can all effect the final product.

Personally I won't be able to see for myself until later in the month (birthday). It actually only arrived in today from HMV, despite being posted on Thursday.

Not in general. But in this case obviously so. Just look. And filtering doesn't exclude the encoder of course i.e. I didn't say at what stage it was filtered. The Criterion doesn't look sharpened, so I say the Arrow is filtered, because it lacks detail present on the Criterion.

DVDCompare lists them on Arrow’s release but maybe they got confused when copying over the titles?

Perhaps. I can’t check right now though.

I can confirm that "All Noncombatants Please Clear the Set" and "Spike's Photos" are, in fact, included on the Arrow release.

Does the DCP correlate with the Criterion/Arrow or Universal master?
