I believe the Alliance versions are 1080i, while these WB versions will be to quote your avatar: Full HD 1080p.

Alliance tends to use masters that were created for HD Broadcast and slap them onto a Blu-Ray (which is also why some of the films they release are cropped from 2.40:1 to 16:9)-- as Miller_Time22 said, MK 1 was made with a 1080i master, plus they simply ported over the Dolby Digital 5.1 track from the old DVD. These new official Warner Bros. Blu-Rays will have full 1080p transfers along with DTS Master Audio tracks.

But I'll also add that it's lame that there are extras like a commentary and so forth that they aren't including.

I don't see any reason why you would replace MK:A. The Alliance release has a DTS-HD MA track and the transfer looks great. The back of the boxes say 1080i, but I play them at 1080p and have no problems.

I'll probably pass on this/these. The first movie wasn't too bad. I LOVED it as a kid but, looking back on the first one now, I'm just not convinced I'd like it anymore. Making Goro sound like one of the baddies from TMNT II: Secret of the Ooze infuriates me, lol. And MK: Annihilation was one of the two movies I've ever walked out on in the theater.

Where do i begin with MK:A lets see:

1) There was a huge article in scifi magazine back in 1997 all about this movie they had photos of everyone in the movie and yet some were not even in the movie.
2)There was supposed to be a prison breakout scene where kabal was to fight stryker there was concept drawings on several sites confirming this and the director said that they could not film it cause of budget and time constraints.
3)The movie was supposed to come out in august of 1997 but was pushed back to november of 1997 for what reason i don't know it still turned out to be crap.

AS FOR THE MOVIE ITSELF LETS SEE:

1)The outfit for shao kahn was totally crap. (KAHN DOES NOT WEAR PANTS.)
2)The actor who portrayed kahn was a joke.
3)The fights were okay but were way too short.
4)Sheeva had no fight scenes.(SHEEVA DOES NOT HAVE PENCIL ARMS)
5)Motaro was a joke he did not even look like he should.
6)Christopher Lambert should have been raiden.
7)Nightwolf had no fight scenes.
8)They should have worked on Baraka he looked like crap.
9)Smoke does not shoot rockets from his chest(HE SHOOTS A HARPOON)
10)Kitana's fan was 3 quarters the size of her body.

WHAT ELSE:

1)The whole raiden and shao kahn are brothers bit was stupid.
2)When rain tells kahn that kabal and stryker's souls were already taken how could this be if (THEY WERE NEVER EVEN IN THE MOVIE).
3)When baraka gets kicked into the fire it is not him it is rain who gets knocked into the pit what a way to use stock footage.
4)During the final fight when motaro rips off jax's arm he holds it up and kahn laughs while standing on his perch how could he still be standing there with his cape on when 3 minutes before that he threw off his cape and began to fight lui kang??
5)The ending scene was cut out this was originally filmed to hint that there would have been a third movie it went like this:
quan-chi and shinnok are in the nether realm watching our heroes depart into the setting sun they then both exchange words and leave the cave this was snipped out cause they knew they messed up.
6)Why did they kill johnny cage and why did he not come back to life in the end like sindel did??

WHAT they should have done was stick to the story of the 2nd mkgame and have a tournament in outworld have shang tsung come back but instead we ended up with this shlock of a movie and what a stupid tagline:
DESTROY ALL EXPECTATIONS they were right this movie destroyed my expectations completely.

I think i will stick with the first MK movie.

Wouldn't the Canadian releases currently available be the best solution?
