The end credits are framed perfectly (as is the rest of the film), exactly as shown in the theater. There's no zooming.
Sorry for the confusion. I should've said:

It's stated above that the intended ratio was 1.85:1. We are given 1.78:1. If this is unzoomed, there should be a 'safe' zone with more picture at top and bottom.

A few credit screens reach to the top and bottom with text right now. If a matte were placed onto the current image to recreate the 1.85:1 ratio, it appears, to me, that some of these credits would be covered. This shouldn't be the case if things were proper.

*I should say that the text I'm referring to is VERY CLOSE to the edges but NOT ON the edges. It's possible they would only be slightly cut off if the given screen was matted to 1.85:1.

**Update: Did a test with a screen grab from the Blues Brothers screen grabs. I re-sized the sample image and marked off my screen where the matte line fell. I viewed the credits and found only one of the screens came close to the matte line---but it still passed!**

I still don't know if the image is zoomed or not, I don't have the resources to find out, but what was provided does the job. If you're a fan of the movie, buy it!

I can't wait to pop mine in tonight!

P.S.

BUYSOUNDTRAX Records presents a brand new re-issue of the original soundtrack to BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS, featuring music composed by James Horner, to coincide with the DVD and Blu-Ray release of the film on 7/12/11. The booklet features notes by author Randall Larson and the music has been newly mastered for the highest fidelity possible by James Nelson of Digital Outland. The music has been re-sequenced into film order for the first time. In addition, available for the first time, is a musical source cue composed by Alan Howarth, along with a library of sound effects developed by Howarth for the film. Concluding the album and our tribute to James Horner’s seminal composition is an exciting concert arrangement of the main theme from BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS, produced by James Fitzpatrick for Silva Screen Records in 1998, powerfully performed by the City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS is a limited edition of 1000 units.

I got my copy at Comic Con for $19.99 and I was able to have John Saxon and Sybil Danning sign it for me at no extra cost. Both were super nice and I was able to get a picture with Sybil Danning .
I watched it when I got home and I was more than pleased the movie looks great.

On sale in the Shout! Factory web store right now for $12.99 with $4.99 regular shipping. Not that much of a savings compared to Amazon, but it caused me to finally pull the trigger.

Great release. Just wish it had subtitles. Shout Factory titles never have them for some reason.

The lowest price that I have seen over at Shout Factory for the combo (2K remastered) Blu Ray steelbook AND Valkyrie (Sybil Danning) Neca boxed figure PLUS the exclusive poster set all for $34.99! Five dollars cheaper than I paid back in February. Don't delay if you are remotely interested as this is now going out of print. Not expecting a 4K (since it was a 2K remaster) but anything is possible!
