Well .. mmh. I'm going to rephrase and say "TR and DM were two of the best Sci Fi Action picture gems of the 90s imo."
I'd put T2 a bit ahead and ST about on the same level, but it's all a matter of taste really.

Total Recall and Demolition Man fall under what I call the unbelievable category. This means that everything in each movie would never happen in real life. I look at Terminator 2 and Starship Troopers as improbable, but certainly not impossible.

Color me jaded, but as for me I find time travel a lot tougher to swallow than messing with your mind and memories, or a post apoc future in which a totalitarian gov wants to make our lives "perfect". This being said, T2 is awesome, so who cares ?

To clarify: I rate features based on quality, not quantity. If disc A has 10 features, all of which are uninformative fluff, while disc B has 1 feature with a lot of solid information, disc B will get a high rating and disc A will get a low one. Any other approach rewards discs that are padded with marketing department junk or features that repeat the same information and reuse the same interview footage.

The commentary on DM is one of the more engaging and informative I've heard, and I've heard a lot of them. Hence the rating.

Would be nice to see comparison screens from the EU/JP discs since I don't rate them 4,5 stars at all.

I know the film backwards and ALL Warner action remasters have the blown contrast and the teal and orange make over, also see Coba, Lethal Weapon etc.

surprised at all the negative comments!! agree with the reviewer completely about the movie as well as Stallone-- I never really cared for Sly until the 1-2 punch of CLIFFHANGER and DEMOLTION MAN in the early 90's--
loved both films!!

DEMOLITION MAN is not just about explosions-- it's actually very creative, extremely funny, and offers some memorable performances from much of the cast--- looking very much forward to retiring my ancient dvd and getting a blu release!

Its not a bad review at all, I agree with 99% of it and it is the best the film has looked.
But for a film that has a lot of blue lighting the teal makes it look sickly at times

In other words, your sources are:
  1. Your own observation
  2. Familiarity with the film
  3. Familiarity with the DVD
  4. General familiarity with Warner remasters

What you don't have is an answer print of the film; so you're only guessing when you talk about "how it was shot". I don't intend that as a criticism. It's the same situation almost all of us are in when reviewing a disc, absent a sign-off from the director or DP.

I have the same sources listed above. I just don't share your conclusion.

But I am not a reviewer talking about the intended look of the film as you do in the picture section, also the HDTV versions were all the same colour as the DVD

So, this is the "Taco Bell" version of the movie and not the "Pizza Hut" version. Hmmm

It would have been nice to include both versions, or at least the different versions of those scenes as extra's. As well as some deleted scenes. But, I supposed it is indeed great to finally get a decent transfer of this under-appreciated movie on BR.

So I have the Demolition Man Japan import, is it better or worse than the U.S. release? Why?
