Neogaf is blowing up with people complaining about the ports. I will say that if you are really familiar with the PS2 versions, these ports are pretty bad. Tons of post-processing effects are missing, the framerate is constantly dropping for no apparent reason, the sound is all screwed up, the lips don't sync right, the fog's not right and it reveals stuff you shouldn't see like the edge of the game world, etc. I had higher hopes, especially after how great the MGS HD Collection was. Konami should have stuck with BluePoint Games.

The only time I noticed that is when I play with the "new voices" on. As for everything else, I am more or less ok with them. One thing to keep in mind is that this game (SH2) came out in 2001, and withOUT HD in mind when they made it.

They just released a patch which should fix most of that. I haven't really had any problems though yet.

So how long did it take most people to figure out the "T" "X" "Z" riddle?

I sat
[Show spoiler]there for about 5 minutes wondering how anything of those could equal a 4 digit number and them it suddenly hit me. You spell them out on the keypad. I figure that out but I couldn't figure out the right sequence.

The patch didn't fix any of the problems, and also managed to break 5.1 support for people who use optical for their audio output.

Here is a pretty cool set of videos to look at to compare:

HD Collection - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTZeeVJYS98#t=30s

Original - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhSz59KL5rI#t=6m30s

The HD Collection looks like he's rowing into the Outer Limits

This video tries to detail some of the other problems. It kind of rambles, but it shows a lot of the dumb stuff -

If I'm a big enough sucker to pay for games I already own just so I can have them in widescreen and on a console I currently have hooked up, I'd like for them to at least be as good as the copies I already have.

I just got it and popped it in and selected "New Voices". My jaw hit the floor with how horrible it is. Mary Elizabeth McGlynn does not work as Mary and this ghoulish voice over for James does not fit!

Yes sir, that's why I've playing with the original voices after a short while.

I heard the original voices were horrible so I went with new. Having seen a couple videos of the original, I prefer the new. I can understand why some might not like it. I like Troy Baker though.

Granted, the original voice acting ain't perfect to begin with, but then I really urge new players (who had never played SH2 and SH3 when they first came out) to keep an open mind with the voice acting. I mean, SH2 came out in 2001, and it is no surprise certain aspects of the game don't stand up against games we see in the past 3-5 years.

New versus old is subjective. I love the originals - especially the original mary/maria

The HD collection is a tragedy overall. Terrible changes, awful lag - game is already under amazon.com review for issues

No more silent hill games for me: Downpour was laggy and this one is very laggy. Just not acceptable.

Okay, I really need to get the OST for Silent Hill 2. Another epic moment with great music. Really hit the spot.

My finger has been hovering over the purchase button for it on itunes for days now. . Sure I'll cave soon.

Anyway, playing through 2 and thought I nearly locked up 10 times due to frame rate issues running through the dark streets from the hospital to the historical society. And there are only 2-4 enemies nearby at anytime during that section.
I'm enjoying the story so will just bear with the issues for now. Just amazing how poorly this runs compared the RE4hd port.

Wow. I don't think I should have put Hard Riddles on Silent Hill 3. Immediately stumped on the Shakespeare Puzzle. It's kind of lame that if you haven't read the books you would have no idea how to solve the puzzle. I've read Hamlet and Romeo & Juliet but the other 3 I would have had no idea.

I plan on playing Silent Hill 2 again, I just wanted to play 3 really bad as well. Pretty creepy so far though.

Can you not download these through the PSN? Are no demos available? I'm quite close to purchasing it but want to make sure I like how it looks.

Sorry, as far as I know the game is available on disc only.

I am only playing SH2 so far, so I cannot comment on SH3's PQ. IMHO, SH2 looks as good as it can get here. Sure, I have reasons to believe sources of certain movie cut scenes only available in 4:3 AR, thus making some of them look weird, or out right terrible; but I don't think they hurt the game play much at all. Plus, try to keep in mind this game came out in 2001.

Ok, picked up where I left off in SH2 after nearly 2 weeks... got to the part where James and Eddie had that conversation, and now I finally know where people are saying about the BAAAAAD audio out of sync issue is! Geez... that part IS terrible...

I haven't been playing it since early June, I guess? So there is a new patch? What is the version? I will check it out this weekend if I have the time.

yeah the new patch was released around Aug 8th, it was supposed to resolve frame rate and audio synchronization issues, among other things. i'm not sure what version the patch is though.

i just finished playing silent hill 1 and was wanting to pick up this hd collection, i was just hoping most of the issues were fixed after this last patch.

Ive just finished my first playthrough (Silent Hill 2) and got a few trophies. Looking for help/tips with the different endings trophies. Any links to threads about this would be great.
