There. Lawrence of Arabia (Director's Cut) September 10, 2012

That should suffice as a source. And I echo the sentiments that Simba's never steered us wrong so far.

I see by that link that this is now listed as "pulled from schedule."

Could just be that Sony doesn't want anyone listing it until they officially announce it.

No, the American thread lists that it's been pushed back at least until November. Let's face it folks, this isn't coming this year. First it was June, then September, now November and like I said on the other forum, we really shouldn't be surprised because Grover Crisp said that as of a month ago, they were still working on the remaster.

I simply don't get what in the blue hell could've been so wrong with this film that it has taken 6 bloody years to remaster it. How did its condition apparently deteriorate so badly since the 1980's remaster? Was it left out in open weather? Or was it more of what I strongly suspect which is that Sony is just simply feeding us lines about this remaster and they'll simply shove it out whenever they feel like it. I'm sorry, I don't believe for a minute they've been working on this thing for 6 years as they claim.

From what I gather its been pushed back so that it can have a theatrical run in mid-November (source - http://www.parkcircus.com/in_cinemas...ence_of_arabia). The restoration HAS screened: it premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival last week, so it's definitely finished. Such is the anticipation for the reissue that the theatrical release was a late addition, so it's understandable that they'd want to hold back the home video release until after that.

My prediction -
Theatrical release on 16th November (confirmed)
Home video release November 26th or December 3rd.

And that just pisses me off even more. I am damn seriously considering not buying it just to throw it in Sony's face. Granted my money is meaningless in the massive load they're gonna get with this release but as of today, they will not get one dime of my money no matter how good the release is because I just don't believe it's truly taken 6 years to finish. The movie from pre-production to release didn't even take that long.

Could LOA have really been in that much worse shape than the first 2 Godfather films? My understanding is that those took a matter of months to remaster, maybe a year tops. Did LOA deteriorate as much in (as of 2006) less than 20 years from its previous remastering as the 2 Godfather films did in 30 years with no previous remastering? Sorry, I'm calling complete BS on this.

No, if you would bother to scroll down a few lines on that BVA page, you'd see that it's still scheduled for September.

To be fair though, it says the "normal" edition has been pulled, whilst the one with an UltraViolet Digital Copy is still on schedule. It's an easy mistake to make.

First one: simple mistake, my apologies.

Second one: I reported what a post in the thread said. Where exactly did I spread false information? How about pulling that dildo out of your ass and actually reading what's written.

Why? I've seen the film a number of times theatrically (in 70mm), and am really looking forward to seeing the new restoration in all its 4K glory theatrically.

The fact that they're delaying the release even farther for this. I seriously don't believe they will make substantially more money if they released them both at the same time or even if they released the blu-ray first. It's not like the film is gonna bring in hoards of new fans at the box office. Anyone who wants to see it in a theater will see it whether it's on blu-ray or not and basically pushing it back just for this is yet another slap in the face.

This is not Beauty and The Beast, The Lion King, or Finding Nemo which have the 3D gimmick to draw in people plus a much larger and much more recent viewing audience. How many parents are gonna take little Jimmy to watch a showing of Lawrence of Arabia? Not too damn many. Lawrence of Arabia is one of the greatest films ever made but it was not made for parents to bring their kids to watch it because seriously, how many young children would actually sit through a 3 1/2 hour movie that is rather slow paced for 2/3 of the movie. They're not old enough to full appreciate this film and for mainly this reason, pushing back the blu-ray release for a theatrical release really pisses me off.

I wouldn't take it so personally. This is how these things are done. It was the same with Taxi Driver and the same with Apocalypse Now, likewise Jaws and Jurassic Park. The distributors simply saw that there was a demand for theatrical and responded to it. And I applaud them for it: it's great to see classic films exhibited magnificently. A Blu-ray release prior to theatrical would harm the box office, so I can appreciate why they're holding it back.

Children's films aren't the only market for reissues (which is what you seem to be implying). I don't think anyone is seriously expecting parents to bring kids to LoA. There will be a great demand for the film tho, much as there was for the four films I mentioned above, and much as there is for many of the films which are given a theatrical reissue every year.
