These titles seem like a good Father's Day promo, so hopefully we'll at least get them in the 1st half of 2013. I'd rather have that vs Q4 releases.

Still, you can't complain that at least they are being prepped for release. The long wait time could simply mean that we could be getting remastered copies.

On a personal note, there have only really been two projects that James Cameron has produced that I was impressed with. Aliens and his Dark Angel television series (Season 1). I thought the second season had went way over the top and literally jumped the shark. The second season just seemed to really go in another direction.

Far as the Terminator series goes, Cameron really needs to get back to that franchise and get it back on track. I'd like to see the series continue where Salvation left off. Personally, I don't think that it should start fresh with a new film but rather continue the chronology that ended Salvation. While they aren't all directly linked, they do feed off one another as a somewhat continuing storyline.

Cameron was supposed to make Terminator 3 but he was screwed over by the guys who at the time had the rights to the movie and were the producers. It was supposed to be an actual Future War film IIRC.

Either way, were he to return to the franchise (he won't) he would ignore everything aside from his own movies.

I would still rather see D.A.R.Y.L. on blu-ray rather than another Termminator sequel.

To me, the Ext. Edition of "THE ABYSS"
[Show spoiler](45+ mins longer, give or take. It's been a while, but I know it's Quite a bit Longer than the TC)
is Incredible. Might just have to break this out & give er' a go.

Not sure if there is/was (?) an Ext Ed. for "TRUE LIES"

As long as it's a Supervised Transfer of some extent, I'll be happy. Plus, hearing THE ABYSS in 7.1 would be Amazing indeed.

I haven't heard anything about a 7.1 audio for the release.

Happy that both of these are finally going to get a proper release, but 2013? 2012 just started practically. How long are they going to make us wait? Ugh.

It takes James Cameron a long time to get motivated (lols), maybe that explains the 7-10 year wait between each of his movies (lols). This isn't a harp on James Cameron, merely an observation ... I've seen his movie production timeline ... he likes to take a long time on production.

Look at Avatar, didn't he say, jokingly, that he had been working on that film, off and on, for like 20-30 years. I don't remember where I heard him saying that, but I seem to recall some interview he did where he stated that. That he started working on the idea for Avatar back in the 80's and and that he had taken it from studio and studio and that nobody would bite until he finally had a working idea when 20th Century Fox finally bit on the idea for the project.

Are you sure about that? Other than T2 Cameron has exclusively used Fox for all of his theatrical releases since Aliens.

From Wiki-

AVATAR

Quote:
Fox was wavering because of its painful experience with cost overruns and delays on Cameron's previous picture, Titanic, even though Cameron rewrote Avatar's script to combine several characters together and offered to cut his fee in case the film flopped.[53] Cameron installed a traffic light with the amber signal lit outside of co-producer Jon Landau's office to represent the film's uncertain future.[53] In mid-2006, Fox told Cameron "in no uncertain terms that they were passing on this film," so he began shopping it around to other studios, and showed his proof-of-concept to Dick Cook (then chairman of Walt Disney Studios).[53] However, when Disney attempted to take over, Fox exercised its right of first refusal.[53] In October 2006, Fox finally agreed to commit to making Avatar after Ingenious Media agreed to back the film, which reduced Fox's financial exposure to less than half of the film's official $237 million budget.[53] After Fox accepted Avatar, one skeptical Fox executive shook his head and told Cameron and Landau, "I don't know if we're crazier for letting you do this, or if you're crazier for thinking you can do this ..."

I have the original script of Avatar written by James Cameron in the 1994. So the the project started at least 15 years before.

I'd like to see that. Do you have the cocktail napkin framed in a glass shadow box?

Speaking of cocktail napkins that was exactly how Stan Winston came up with the design of the Predator for John McTiernan after many failed attempts from other designers. He drew it out on the flight to the filming location on a napkin.

One thing is sure, it was not written before Dances with Wolves

He prob wrote it back whenever, & just had to wait for Technology to catch up to his ideas on how it needed to be filmed.

The problem that I have always had with 20th Century Fox and NBC Universal is that they are notorious for interfering with the production of a movie or television series. Dark Angel, Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Event, Flashforward, Surface ... the list goes on and on and it's always the exectuvies at these studios who are always meddling with the production of these shows.

While the studios are mostly to blame, movie producers and directors like James Cameron also bare some responsibility. He's notorious for large budgets for his films. I think Titanic and Avatar rank up there as the most expensive of his projects. I think movie studios are justified if they don't want to fund such atmospheric budgets. Directors and producers do have a responsibility to keep their budgets under control otherwise, movie studios might not be as forthcoming with approving a movie for production.

You can even go back to Aliens. It took close to $20 million to make and in 1986 that was absolutely crazy for that day in age.
