Whatever, I'm sure it looks great in HD. Not everything has to be about the petty format war.

The only reason I wont buy it on DVD is that I already saw it in theatres and I will buy it on Blu when it comes out, I just dont need 2 versions of this movie. Granted I already bought some Bd's that I already had on DVD but I had those before I even knew about Blu-Ray.

The upconverted DVD will hold me over until the Blu-ray version comes out.

I also just received my copy of TF The Movie from the UK. All I have to say is WOW Animated G1 never looked so good! Works perfectly fine on the PS3 too.

I had a bad experience in the theater too: about halfway through the movie, John Turturro appeared on screen and proceeded to grind the movie to a screeching halt.

In all seriousness, I've got the HD DVD in my queue for Netflix. I have no desire to buy, but since there's no cost in renting, I would like to see and hear some of the action sequences, like the army base attack at the beginning.

I just got done watching it on HD-DVD....

The video was pretty good to be honest. You can really see the difference between VC-1 and AVC....

The sound was no where near five star level though to be honest. I felt on a whole that it was like listening to a movie with a thin layer of ziplock across the opening to my ears. There just wasn't that same vibrant clarity that I get when I listen to my wonderous Blurays with PCM....

And no, before any HD-DVD fanboy reads this and wants to reply to it, its not my set up.

Transparent to the master my ass....

The movie was still pretty bad though, I just had to see what all of the reviews about this title on HD-DVD were about so I bought it while I was at Best Buy raping the BD section....

I got the Fifth Element Remastered for like 14.99!! I am so stoked. I still have the original release unopened, and have been waiting to watch the movie when it properly gets released....

Probably going to hit that up tonight, can't wait.

The truth of the matter is however, is that if this is the best that HD-DVD has to offer, while still much better then DVD, it just isn't the same caliber as Bluray....

The picture was actually pretty impressive for an HD-DVD, but it cost them loseless audio to be able to do it right.

Bluray offers the much better complete package, and I look foward to picking this up again when it comes out on Bluray with some real audio quality.

I was weak and bought it myself. Not going to wait for Paramount to release it on Blu or for myself to buy an HD-DVD player for it... Was a good movie imo, just sucks that it's not on blu.

Although I was impressed by the LFE in some parts, the audio on the DVD is nowhere near reference for a DVD.

Several discs in my collection are better than Transformers including Gladiator:ES, U-571, Saving Private Ryan, Minority Report and X2 amongst others.

Great to watch this flick again, but boy does it pale in comparison to the 24-bit audio on Pirates and The PRestige.

Same here.

I actually had my gf pick it up on her way home from work. She told me that when she was picking it up one of the Circuit City employees said "You've got to be the only person to buy that movie on HD today", and this was about 5pm or so. Then he proceeded to tell her "If he likes to watch movies on HD then he should check out the Blu-ray player over here for $399." And the gf responds "Yeah he's already got one of those too, he was disappointed this movie wasn't Blu-ray, but he had to have it. He's got all the toys; tv, theater, and everything." I was proud of her haha. So thats good news I guess for Blu-ray. I am a big Blu-ray supporter and would have rather bought it on Blu-ray, but obviously I couldn't do that. I was not going to settle for DVD version as this is a sweet Michael Bay movie with excellent special effects. And as I have both players and want to get my moneys worth out of them, if it were a movie such as Batman or something that was just an "average" or "everyday" movie then the DVD would suffice.

So anyways, the movie on HD DVD:
IMHO the video was very grainy in certain spots, not the entire movie and was VERY noticeable at times. Overall the video was only "OK", and the audio was surprisingly "good". It was nice hearing it coming from all 7 speakers.

I hope when the Blu-ray version comes out that they will fix some of the video in certain spots. It is especially noticeable in darker scenes and also when they show the girl going into the conference room to tell the chief(or whatever he is) that its possible it could be a DNA robut of some sort. I would personally give the video a "3-3.5", and the audio a "4".

I know some of you are going to flame because I have it on HD DVD, but you've got to realize that some movies you've just got to have on HD rather than DVD and that I fully emphasize buying Blu-rays as much as possible, but sometimes you've got to make a sacrafice. I have all intentions on buying this movie AGAIN once released on Blu-ray and I hope it has a 7.1 PCM track.
