So does the racoon come from a planet of intelligent racoons or is he a racoon that was exposed to some type of radiation that made him intelligent?

Lol, reading that back it kinda sounds like a troll question. I'm serious tho. I need a little context for this character.

Eaiest to just go to Wikipedia to explain....

Rocket Raccoon acts as the "Guardian of the Keystone Quadrant", an area of outer space sealed off from the rest of the cosmos by the so-called Galacian Wall. Rocket is captain of the starship Rack 'n' Ruin, and he and his first mate Wal Russ (a talking walrus) come from the planet Halfworld, in the Keystone Quadrant, an abandoned colony for the mentally ill where the animal companions were genetically manipulated to grant them human level intelligence and bipedal body construction for many to become caretakers of the inmates. Rocket was Halfworld's chief law officer ("ranger") who protected the colony against various threats.

Much more detail..

Long story short, created as part of a race of animal people (not all are raccoons), on a planet called Halfworld far off in outer space. I believe they were created by robots. They were made to protect inmates of an insane asylum on the planet.

The last GotG comic run was awesome. I never cared for Cosmic Marvel until that book.

And Rocket is really the breakout star from that book. He even got a starring role in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3.

I can't understand this kind of response. The film is just a concept at the moment and most people are already saying it will suck. The fact that Marvel is actually taking risks should be welcomed instead of attacked. I for one don't want to see the MCU turning into a sequel-fest which is already becoming. Why people can't think outside of the Avengers team is what puzzles me. Everyone asks for different things and not the same old superheroe formula and when they finally get it everyone feels offended by the idea . We should at least give them the benefit of doubt. If people can see Chewbacca in the screen and feel like he is another character instead of a funny not-human thing I don't see why we wouldn't see Rocket Racoon throwing one-liners and shooting bad guys in the same way.

Yeah, no one is saying it is going to suck. Least no one here is. I said a talking, gun wielding racoon isn't my cup of tea, but I'm open minded about it.

I have no idea about this comic franchise or the film, but how does a raccoon find itself defending outer space with a gun? Did it drink the same ooze the turtles did?

Now if only DC/WB would get off their thumb and be as daring with their movies. Or even make some other than Bats and Supes.

GotG should certainly be interesting. After the Avengers they seem to be going down the whole magical space ideas. We'll definitely see Dr.Strange in a few years!

Give 'em a break. They did Watchmen, Jonah Hex and Green Lantern. None of which were particularly appreciated by general audiences or critics. At least Watchmen is adored by a considerable number of people like us. But the point is that those were pretty daring compared to heavy-hitters like Bats and Supes. I'm still surprised Wonder Woman has never made it beyond the great animated flick she got. We keep hearing about TV shows and movies being developed.

I don't think it's pretty daring to finally make some movies out of properties other than Superman and Batman, on which they've capitalized for over thirty years. Watchmen was good (at least the director's cut) but in its long form nobody would see it, and in its short form it was way too confusing for the few who actually went to see it. Jonah Hex was being ruined by the executives, and Green Lantern was as well.
DC really needs someone like Kevin Feige, someone who loves the comics, and helps with the producing the movies, and getting that whole separate line moving forward. Second, you need writers and directors who are fans of the characters, and less meddling by executives would be nice as well.
Seriously, Warner and DC may be afraid that something as Aquaman could never work, but if Marvel can do a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, then everything can be done.

I dunno. Aquaman is something you see audiences being less accepting of than even a raccoon in space etc. Alvin and the chipmunks did great remember

I think for WB/DC, it's being in the game 'late' they're always going to be looked at a lot more critically than Marvel were at first because they pulled it off and are now in Phase II, yet WB/DC has gotta really up their game tbh. I think Green Lantern needs a proper redeeming sequel, while Man of Steel is shaping up extremely well judging by fan reaction.

I think Man of Steel will officially kick it off but GL with Reynolds should tie into it. I think almost all signs are pointing to WB/DC working backwards.

JLA then individual titles after MoS releases. It's a ballsy move by them to stay different and they're ramping up exposure via all the other mediums as much as possible. I'm looking forwards to when WB/DC throw their hat into the ring tbh as Marvel is great and all but the more the merrier

Here's CC's Rocket Raccoon concept art.

I actually can't wait for this movie, Raccoon and all. I just hope they bring in Adam and Mantis, and if I'm really lucky, we'll get a little Warlock.

Awesome Sauce! They'll probably keep the cast fairly small for the first film. Since they don't have a fistful of lead in movies.
