Mad Max 2 and 3 are identical to the non-UK sets.

Not that I know of, need to buy US disc for that and that's why I didn't get the cheaper UK set.

The UK one does come with the proper Australian audio but....its a lossy 2.0 track.

The US dub is funny - for a few minutes. Then I had to switch back to the Australian because it was spoiling the film!

Many pointed out at some flickering and telecine judder in MM2 here and there, while others claimed Thunderdome has flickering and telecine judder especially in the first part, starting with the opening titles. Maybe they are inherent to the source film materials and the way the movies were filmed and put together...

Have you spotted these problems on the DVD versions? If so, it's inherent to the source materials, not the HD transfers.

There are lots of films that have similar problems when transferred from film, flicker and title wobble aren't the hardest things to overcome, especially with todays technology. Flickering pops up quite frequently when older movies are restored and it's usually unnoticeable on the Blu-ray releases. If the source material has issues they should have been overcome with a decent master.

It was in the DVD transfer too... must be related to the original film materials.

Looks to me like there was a slight registration error (the film is juddering about in the gate) with one of the cameras used to shoot Thunderdome, so yeah, what you're seeing is basically an in-camera artefact compounded further by the actual telecine judder of the transfer.

That said, Warners have got form for isolated telecine errors here and there. One of the Lethal Weapon films (it's either 3 or 4) has a slight defocusing effect throughout the first reel (picture gets blurry for a split second) which isn't there for the rest of the film.

It wasn't the transfer's fault. That's my point. They did the best they could.

Blimey, you've changed your tune. First it was "telecine judder this, telecine judder that" and now there's nothing wrong with the transfer, it's just the "film materials"? Trust me, that's some of the worst telecine judder I've seen for ages.

As for the DVD having the same or similar effect, that doesn't mean a great deal because the BD could be using the same underlying transfer. Even if it's not (and it probably wasn't in this case) a new transfer done on the same rickety telecine that Warners had in their employ will still produce noticeable amounts of judder. There's no way on this world or any other that that's a pin-registered scan.

So please, I'm now officially confused.

Yes, but then after that I said it's compounded - i.e. made FAR WORSE - by the telecine judder that's inherent to the underlying transfer.

In fact - mi dispiace - I've got my wires crossed anyway, it's Mad Max 2 which has the slight problem with misregistration, so the judder problems with Thunderdome are ALL down to the transfer.

Thank you so much for the great clarifications.

I'm now officially pissed off. They are treating the Mad Max trilogy like garbage.
