I know this is an old thread but I have been using movie pass for 6 months now and wanted to let my you know how it's working for me. So far to date I have seen 98 movies. Yes I am movie guy who likes watching movies on the big screen.as far as using moviepass it is basically a discover debit card.
You use a smartphones and check-in on the Moviepass APP that activates your card and you walk up to the box office. Hand the card to the cashier they swipe it like a credit card and you can even use your regal crown club card or amc stubs card to get points. You are purchasing a ticket and because it works like a credit card the theatre just treats it like you were paying with a visa or MasterCard. What you cannot do is buy a ticket for a 3D,IMAX, or fathom event. It can only be used for 2Dmovies. It can only be used once every 24 Hours and they mean it. There is no way for customer service to alter, stop or reset the 24 hour clock. Which basically means if you watch a movie that starts at 7:20 p.m you will literally have to wait until 7:20 p.m. The next day to use the card again. Even if the movie starts at 7:19p.m. You will not be able to checking for that movie because of the 24 hour rule. The app is available on iPhone and google play store as of this post it will not work for windows phone or the new amazon fire phone. When you open the app you see a list of movies and click the theaters at the top and it will show you the closest theaters to you. At the theater you select that theater then it will show which movies you will be able to watch with Moviepass the show times are highlighted in red and the ones in grey are not available. You press the movie time and it will ask you to checkin to the movie and it use your gps to make sure you are at the theatre. Once checked in it tells you to use your cc mailing zip if they ask for a zip code. You can by a movie ticket early but the 24 hour time will not start until the start of the movie time. I have bought movie tickets 1/2 hour early with no problems or emails from Moviepass. When you checkin your card is only active for 30 minutes if there is a long line checkin right before you get to the box office. I have seen 98 movies that is right I counted them on my viewing history that Moviepass provides thru its app.I like Cinemark Theaters my self the seats are nice the arms flip up and the have the $3.00 refillable drink cups plus coupons via email and the Cinemark app. You can see most movies even the Indian movies and old movies like back to the future, godfather etc. that they play at Cinemark. Here's an example: August 14 Cinemark will have an Expendables movie marathon for $18.00 you can not use moviepass for this. But if you want to see expendables 3 at 7:00 p.m. The last movie in the marathon you can buy a ticket for $11.00 and watch it with moviepass. Another example: Cinemark plays older movies like Godfather, Back to the Future, Monty Python and the Holy Grail and other movies usually 6 movies 6weeks in a row. They offer an advance discount all 6 movies for $30.00 you can not use Moviepass for this. But if you go to each movie individually on the the date and time they are playing. You can buy a ticket for each movie individually. As they are all 2D movies. I have seen reviews where people say you can not see new movies the first week. we'll you can see any movie anytime of day even the early releases the day before on movies like guardians of the galaxy and expendables 3. Another argument is if you do not go to enough movies a year it is not worth it. let's do the math: (Prices vary from city to city this is a sampling of one areas prices) Cinemark Theaters Charges $6.00 for its first show so you would need to see 6 movies a month to pay for the card. $6.00 x 6 = $36.00. Monthly Moviepass fee is $35.00 your a dollar ahead Matinee prices are $8.25 you would need to see 5 movies a month to pay for the card $8.25 x 5 = $41.25 Monthly Moviepass fee is $35.00 your $6.25 ahead Regular prices after 6 pm weekdays & 2pm on weekends when most normal people go to the movies is $10.50 you would need to see 3 movies a month to pay for the card $10.50 x 3 = $31.50 Monthly Moviepass Fee is $35.00 your $1.50 ahead Regal Cinemas There matinee price is $9.00 and full price after $11.00 after 6pm on weekdays 2pm on weekends Matinee price $9.00 x 4 movies = $36.00 Monthly Moviepass fee is $35.00 your a dollar ahead Full Price $11.00 x 4 movies = $44.00 Monthly Moviepass fee is $35.00 your $9.00 ahead AMC Theaters we do not have where I live so I do not know there pricing Now let see if we can make this worth the monthly fee how many movies came out in July that a normal theater goer might see: July 2014 Earth to echo Deliver us from evil Planes fire rescue Tammy Sex Tape Planet of the apes Purge Anarchy Lucy Hercules Transformers August Guardians of the Galaxy Get on up Hundred foot journey Into the storm Teenage mutant ninja turtles The Expendables 3 Step up all in The giver Let's be cops Ragnarok There are literally 10 movies this month and next month you could go see and if you paid $10.00 per movie fee that's $200 half a years membership at MoviePass in two months and you paid $70.00 for 20 movies Last edited by southbark; 07-30-2014 at 06:57 AM. |

I guess you could if the cashier would do it for you but most theaters have sent out memos saying that the moviepass card is only for 2D movies. The card is bright red and says moviepass in large letters and it's fairly obvious what the card is for.The regal cinema near my house has received a memo from there corporate offices stating this so you can only use it for 2D movies at that theater. Since I get headaches from 3D movies it is not an issue for me Plus why screw up a good thing by tryin to cheat a system that lets you see a movie every 24 hours for 35 bucks a month. thats literally a little over a buck a day

I used it for about two years. My theater has $4 matinees (until like 4p or so) and I work nights, so I can easily catch one of those. I would have to go to 8 movies a month to save 2 bucks. I just don't have the time to make it worth it. And if I watch movies at home I can do my run or bike workouts while I watch movies.

You also need to consider how quickly you can rack up rewards points with certain theater chains. I am consistently getting free popcorn, drinks, and tickets at Regal because I'm going to the movies so much more often than I would if I didn't have a MoviePass.
I know they say that you can only see a movie once, but has anyone tried to see the same flick on another day? |

Update:
I kept track for the month of August and found I went to 20 movies that cost a total of about $210.50 in tickets. I usually go to movies after 5:00 p.m on weekdays and after 3:00 on weekends so I end getting full price tickets an average of $10 to $11 each ticket. So I benefit from this card as wether you will is dependent on your use of it Last edited by southbark; 09-07-2014 at 07:49 AM. |

For all of you thinking about cheating the system, I tried that. Got away with it for awhile, too (11 months to be exact - they started implementing many of their new measures around that time. No, you will not get away because you only did it twice, those measures work regardless). They will catch you and make you pay back every cent that didn't fall within the original agreement (e.g. if you go see two $5 movies and it covers the full $10, they'd make you pay back $5, while if for whatever reason they only covered $8, they'd make you pay back $3, since the other $2 came from your pocket).
They are incredibly nice about it, but be certain - you will not get away, and quite frankly if you think you might have to do that to make it worthwhile, save that $35 a month (except what of it you would use to see movies you still have to see in theaters, of course) and invest in good home theater equipment. I bought a surround sound system about a week before I got the email from moviepass, had already had a projector for about a year and a half, and I have only been to the theater three times since without it being a movie my parents wanted to see and asked me to come with them. |

I had never heard of this until it showed up today on Facebook. Living in NYC where ticket prices are $14-15 each, it's a no-brainer. I really am interested in joining but wanted to make sure it wasn't a scam or that I wouldn't be locked into something that doesn't work.

![]() As for the 24 hour clock - I can't seem to find info on it anywhere online, but I've noticed the last few times I've gone to the movies, the clock has only been 14 hours. Perhaps they've changed it! For example, I went to see Foxcatcher yesterday at 4:10 pm, and there was a countdown for my next film, and by 7 am this morning it was already done. I'm thinking of testing it this weekend, seeing a 6/7 pm movie on Friday night and then seeing if it allows me to see a noonish movie on Saturday. If they have changed the clock to be 14 hours, it's once again a realm where seeing a movie every single day is almost possible! |

FYI Moviepass has dropped it's rates down to $9.95/month, with a free first month trial. Apparently the 24 hour clock is gone. You can also see the same movie multiple times.
So technically you can go see 30 movies for free if you sign up. |
