"5 Centimeters Per Second" on Blu Ray is very possible since it's already been released in France by KAZE, same company who's now working with Manga UK.
About this new company's stance on Blu Ray, they had this to say: Quote:

No worries, the new company are definitely committed to Blu-ray.
EDIT: Beaten! Basically, both production costs and the minimum print run for BD have gone down so Manga can do more blurays. Also, I wouldn't expect Eva 3.0 until 2014. There's no way in hell Japan will allow a 2013 international release until they can milk Japan's domestic market for all they've got. Last edited by Ath; 12-17-2012 at 07:49 PM. |

I'm hoping for some theatrical screenings in the UK for 3.0 for sure! I can't imagine anyone but Manga getting home video rights though, since it's probably a lock for a Funimation licence and Manga are essentially either Funimation or Madman resellers :P
EDIT: Also on the same podcast, they confirmed that Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere will be getting a BD release, Season 1 due in July. Eureka Seven AO is licensed and BD is a possibility. They might look into rereleasing older things on BD now, though they explicitly ruled out 5cm/second since they still don't have blu-ray rights to that (have no idea what the hell Comix Wave or whoever the licensor is are thinking here). Yeah tis a shame, I personally can't think of a better way to capitalise on Rebuild's success than with a restored Blu-ray boxset of the original series. I heard that the producers don't want to cause confusion between the two, which is silly I think!
I'm hoping that Anime Limited can get their hands on Cowboy Bebop for a bluray release. It's getting one in Japan so the materials will be ready, and it's a guaranteed UK seller. |

"Criterion-style releases"? Of anime? Be still my heart
![]() I'm really hoping they get a hold of some great films - Place Promised in Our Early Days, Mind Game, Gauche the Cellist and Night on the Galactic Railroad could all do with a high quality release. |

![]() The ReBuilds are nice, but they don't beat the original series. |

If you fancy it, you can get the english subtitled Blu-ray for Time of Eve direct from the studio here. I believe it's an exact copy of the Japanese disc (which had subs I think?), it's a steep £35.99 though. This is the series rather than the compiled movie.
Time of Eve is terrific, you can still stream it here on Crunchyroll. |
