Figuring out any kind of analog-to-digital equivalence is tricky, but if you mean to say that with a perfectly focused 4K projector, a 70mm film wouldn't look radically better than a 35mm film, that would be very much wrong.

Film is far superior at displaying images on a large screen. If film is done right, a digital presentation will not beat it. If the film was filmed in 70mm and displayed in 70mm in the proper way, there is nothing on the market that is superior to 70mm film.

Too often today, movie studios are showing 2K scans on 35mm. This is all done because of cost and
nothing else.

I dont know why the specs on this site say 48 khz ...either they're wrong either all software known to man is malfunctioning.
Well, if your specs are accurate, then I am calling the "Samsara" BD audio an upsample job. And that is unfortunate, as it just sells people who lack technical understanding the myth that bigger/greater must be better.

The "Samsara" soundtrack download on HDtracks is a mix of 48 kHz and 44.1 kHz sample rates. So, the music almost certainly did not originate at 96 kHz.

I hope the price will come down to a manageable $19.99 on release day.

Is anyone getting it at the current price?

I will pre-order it @ BBY for the current listed price there of 24.99, which is more than manageable IMO.

I saw Samsara in 4K during its theatrical release. My eyes... they've never seen a more beautiful film on the big screen. I was even able to get my Baraka blu signed after the show.

This release comes with a slipcover, right? At least, the image here looks like it.

Can anyone, who has it already, confirm this please?

Yes. Unfortunately, it ended just as a discussion of the audio appeared to be starting. There seems to be some controversy over the sampling rate. Is it 48Khz or 96Khz? Why wouldn't it be the same as Baraka? I couldn't find the BD back cover art anywhere. I thought that was odd.

There is a lot of info on the web site with a few informative videos, but none of them discuss the BD audio, just the original soundtrack for the film.

There are definitely some edgy visuals in this. Can't wait to see it for myself.

I think no BD release is complete without a little bit of controversy!
I should be getting this in today, and am hoping to do a Baraka/Samsara double feature this weekend!

I've ordered it together with Lawrence of Arabia.

This is the most expensive single BD release I have ever purchased, but I want to support the makers, as this is a truly rare kind of experience, so even though I know it's going to come down in price sooner or later, I decided to show my support.

Can't wait to give it a spin!!!!

My copy just arrived, no slipcover. I didn't think it was going to get one.

sweet!

I agree 4K was stunning, and at the screening I saw it at, it was also the full blown 7.1 audio mix - WOW !! (the theater I saw it had 'voice of god' ceiling speakers)

You must not have read my post earlier in this thread. See this relevant excerpt:

"Baraka" and "Samsara" were made at very different times, and film audio production has changed a lot during the interim.

If the "Samsara" BD does feature 96 kHz audio, then it has only been upsampled to 96 kHz (probably just to match "Baraka") because the music production for "Samsara" did not originate at 96 kHz.

Is Samsara packaged in a standard plastic Blu-ray case or in a cardboard box like the first prints of Baraka?

Just ordered Samsara and Baraka this morning from Amazon. Baraka is out of stock at the moment, so I'm not sure when I'll receive it. Hopefully they are both a feast of eye candy, and if they can make me stop and think or wonder about things for a minuite I'll be happy.

the clarity and sharpness of some of the scenes create a truly amazing faux 3D effect - as if you want to reach into the screen and touch it.
