While I like HOUSE ON STRAW HILL the movie well enough, the blu-ray needed a bit more finesse. Granted, in regards to the quality (ie video detail) of the film, you can only do so much with the source you have to work with. Regardless, the detail is good to very good.
My issue is that it appears Severin did not do proper color correction or image stabilization at all. Not only does it skew to a yellow shift in the color timing, but there is a "yellow-blue" pulsing throughout most of the image. A lot of this could have been corrected through a computer after the initial transfer from film was done... I'm just wondering why it wasn't. |

Well, anyone know of a retro vhs collecting forum/thread?
I know it'd be cool if there were a sub-forum on blu-ray.com for them. Especially with new VHS editions being released of popular films from like Mondo and Severin, among other niche labels. |

I consider myself quite lucky to have escaped the VHS bug so far, because I have more than enough going on with the vintage poster collecting. But I know several big collectors who own 1980s tapes in the thousands - and they all seem to frequent that forum. |

I ordered the limited editions of The House on Straw Hill and Hot Nights of Linda, along with the Expose VHS, from Severin back in September and got a shipping notice on October 1. And then waited. And waited... hey, I'm in Australia, a wait is to be expected, right?
Finally, literally the day I decided to write a terse email, the Expose tape arrived. This was last Friday. I noticed the mailer had, in no less than three places, a postdate of October 30. So once it had been sent it came quite fast... but it wasn't shipped until virtually the full month after the shipping notice email. After some MORE waiting, I suddenly got a call from someone down my street, asking if there was somebody with my name at that address. "Yes...?" He lived at number 15, I live at 51, and a package had arrived addressed to me - but with the '15' address. So he'd looked up my (unususal) surname and guessed where it was supposed to go. I got it from him, thanked him for going the extra yard for a stranger, and noted the postdate. October 31, but not sent from the same address as the VHS. That had come from the US; the Blu-Rays had come from a UK address! (I know Severin has a UK arm. Or wing. Some appendage, anyway) Anyway, they HAD arrived (despite one package being addressed to the wrong street number) so I'm happy, but I have to wonder what on earth happened to have such a delay after the supposed shipping notice. Oh, and Straw Hill is a great rescue effort that I still can't believe I now own, and Hot Nights has some excellent extras, especially the Thrower interview, that I found very helpful. Two more top releases from Severin. |

I let someone borrow my copy of Papaya: Love Goddess of the Cannibals and after prodding them to return it, they finally did - full of scratches! It looks like someone literally used it to clean the floor. Suffice to say they won't be borrowing any more DVDs from me but the point is, before I buy another copy, is this film a candidate for a Blu-ray upgrade? I think it's one of the better (more enjoyable) Italian cannibal movies - and that soundtrack is awesome. This along with Bloody Birthday should receive an upgrade IMO.

![]() Yeah, Severin doesn't get much love around here. Glad to see these are materializing so soon. I'll grab everything except Dead Kids. Thirst is one of my holy grails. That film scared the bejeezus out of me as a kid. |
